初中課本教材上接觸到關於used 的常用句型結構有used to do sth. ，be used to do sth. 以及be used to doing sth. 三個。不少同學乍一看可能會覺得有點迷惑，used to do sth. 還比較好理解，但是be used to do sth.和 be used to doing sth. 這兩個可能就有點難了 。那麼就一起來看看這三個句型結構在意思和用法上的區別吧。
第一個也是最簡單的一個， used to do sth.
它所表示的意思是「過去常常做某事」，強調過去發生的事，所以一般用於描述發生在過去的事情， 比如
I used to walk to school every day .
以前我每天步行上學。
Mr. Zhang used to be an officer in the army .
張先生以前是部隊裡的一位軍官。
I used to be afraid of the dark when I was
young . 以前小的時候，我很怕黑。
People in old times used to think that the
world was created by God .
古時候，人們認為上帝創造了世界。
接著再看be used to do sth. 和 be used to doing sth.。 這兩個句型在結構上非常相似，但是意思完全不一樣，首先是主語不一樣，be used to do sth. 主語一般是物，表示」(某物)被用於做某事」，而be used to doing sth. 的主語是人，表示」(某人)習慣於做某事」，例如
The machine is used to cut down trees.
這個機器是用來砍樹的。
Wood can be used to make paper.
樹木可以用於造紙。
Americans are used to eating with a knife and fork. 美國人習慣就餐時使用菜刀和餐叉。
Indians are used to picking up the food with
their fingers.印度人習慣用手拿起食物。
