Hello, I'm Oli from Oxford Online English.
Today, we have a free lesson about the IELTS writing exam.
大家好,我是奧利,歡迎來到牛津在線英語。
今天,我們要給大家免費上一堂關於雅思考試寫作部分的課。
Many English learners are studying English because they want to work or study in an English speaking country.
For many students, that means taking an IELTS exam, which tests all the main skills: speaking, reading, listening, and writing.
很多英語學習者學習英語是因為他們想在講英語的國家工作或學習。
對很多學生來說,這就意味著他們要參加雅思考試,在這個考試中聽說讀寫各項主要技能都會涵蓋。
For many English learners, the writing part of the IELTS exam is the most difficult.
In this lesson, I'll share some simple advice for anyone who's planning to take IELTS or wants to get a better score in the writing.
雅思考試的寫作部分對很多英語學習者來說是最難的部分。
在這堂課中,我會給所有計劃參加雅思考試,或者想在寫作部分取得更好成績的人提供一些簡單的建議。
Point one, answer the question! It's the most important point, I know it sounds obvious, it sounds stupid.
第一條建議:回答問題!這是最重要的一點,我知道聽起來好像大家都知道這一點,把它作為一條建議似乎太笨了。
But I've taught writing classes to a lot of people and this is problem number one.
Remember, everything you write should address the question directly.
但是我給很多人上過寫作課,這是他們遇到的最大的問題。
記得,你寫的每一個字都應該直接回答題目所問。
Even if you write in perfect English, the examiners cannot give you marks for writing which doesn't answer the question.
So, read the questions carefully and think before you write to make sure your answer is relevant.
如果你寫出來的作文答非所問,那麼即使你的英語寫得再完美,閱卷老師也不能給你分。
所以一定要仔細審題,下筆之前好好想想,確保自己寫出來的內容不會跑題。
Don't try to use something you've memorized.
Don't try to use something you've written before. It won't work.
不要用你背過的內容。
不要把你以前寫過的內容生搬硬套過來,沒有用的。
Number two, structure and organize your writing. Essay structure is really important.
第二條建議:組織好作文結構。作文的結構非常重要。
First of all, it helps you to organize your ideas in a logical way.
Secondly, a well-structured essay is much easier for the examiner to read and understand.
首先,它有助於合理地組織想法。
其次,結構明晰的作文更便於閱卷老師審閱和理解。
You can have really good ideas and you can write in perfect English, but if you don't organize your ideas well, your essay won't be easy to read and understand.
The examiner will not spend a lot of time trying to read and understand your essay.
如果無法合理地把想法組織起來,那麼即使你的想法再好,英文寫得再完美,作文還是無法讓人輕易看懂和理解。
閱卷老師不會花大把時間努力看清和弄懂你的作文寫了什麼。
The examiner will simply decide that your writing is not clear and give you a lower score.
So, how can you structure your essay?
他只會直接認為你的作文表達不清晰,然後給你比較低的分數。
那麼,應該如何組織作文結構呢?
Here are some important points.
Plan before you write, even if you just spend a minute thinking about what you're going to say and in what order.
下面幾點很重要。動筆之前做好規劃,即使是只花一分鐘的時間想想要按什麼順序寫什麼內容也行。
Just spending that minute thinking is really important. Write in paragraphs. Each paragraph should have one main idea.
用那一分鐘的時間來思考非常重要。給作文分段。每一段應有一個中心思想。
Practice writing introductions and conclusions.
Remember, introductions and conclusions need to bring your ideas together without just repeating all of your points.
作文開頭和結尾要多加練習。
記得,你在開頭和結尾中要把你的想法整體闡述一遍,而不是把每個觀點一個一個重複寫出來。
Start each paragraph with a topic sentence.
A topic sentence tells your reader what you're going to talk about in the rest of the paragraph.
每一段用主題句開頭。
主題句會讓你的讀者知道你在這一段中要寫些什麼。
It's like a summary at the beginning of the paragraph so that the reader will not be surprised by anything you say.
This way, the examiner knows what you want to say and it will be easier to follow your ideas.
就像放在每段開頭的總結一樣,這樣你的讀者就不會對你後面寫的內容感到意外了。
按照這種方法,閱卷老師就知道你要寫些什麼了,也能更容易了解你的意思。
Number three, don't worry about ideas.
It's not a test of your knowledge.
第三條建議:不要擔心沒東西可寫。
這場考試測試的不是你的知識面。
"But I don't know what to write about!" This is what many IELTS students say and complain about, especially for question two of the writing paper.
「但是我不知道要寫些什麼啊!」很多考雅思的學生都會這麼抱怨,尤其是在作文的第二部分。
But remember, IELTS is an international exam.
The questions are written to be relevant to students all around the world, of all ages.
但是記住,雅思考試是一場國際性的考試。
設置的題目是與世界各地各年齡段的考生息息相關的。
Men, women, people in jobs, people at home, it's supposed to be relevant for everybody.
IELTS is not an intelligence test, it's not a test of your knowledge.
無論性別、職業如何,題目內容是與每個人都息息相關的。
雅思考試不是智商測試,測試的不是你的知識面。
The most important thing is to use your ideas and experiences to answer the question.
When you read the question, ask yourself "What's my opinion on this topic?" and "What examples can I use from my life experience to support my opinions?"
最重要的就是結合你自己的想法和經歷來作答。
審題時問問自己:「我對於這個話題的觀點是什麼?」以及「我能用自己生活經歷中的哪些例子來佐證我的觀點?」
That's all you need to think about, you don't need any specialist knowledge.
You just need to use your life, your experiences, your ideas in an answer.
以上就是你要思考的全部內容,並不需要任何專業性知識。
你只需要用自己的生活、經歷和想法作答即可。
Point four, understand the word count.
The word count rules in IELTS are often misunderstood.
第四條建議:弄懂字數要求。
大家經常誤解雅思考試的字數要求。
When they say 250 words, that means 250 words minimum.
You need to write 250 words or more.
題目中寫了250個字時,意思是最少250個字。
你要寫250字及以上。
If you write less, you'll lose marks.
There is no maximum, but that doesn't mean you should try to write more.
如果字數少於250字,你就要丟分了。
試卷中沒有字數上限要求,但這並不意味著寫得越多越好。
Ideally, you should limit your answers to 10-15% above the minimum.
So that means, maximum, 160-170 words for question one and maximum 270-290 words for question two.
你最好應該把字數限制在超過最低字數的10%-15%。
也就是說,小作文的字數不超過160-170,大作文不超過270-290。
Writing more doesn't get you more marks and it can also cause problems with time management.
Most students don't feel that the time limit is comfortable.
不是寫得越多分數就越高,寫得過多可能還會帶來時間分配上的問題。
大多數學生對時間限制都會感到一些不適。
Obviously, writing more will take longer and you might have time problems.
Point five, pay attention to register and style, but don't try to show off.
顯然,寫得越多花的時間就越長,那麼時間可能就會不夠。
第五條建議:注意文體和風格,但切勿賣弄。
You need to write in an appropriate style to get the highest marks.
So, for example, don't use contractions like we'll, it's, or I'd.
要得到最高的分數,你需要按照恰當的風格寫作。
舉個例子,不要使用像"we'll, it's, I'd"這樣的縮寫形式。
Don't use slang or conversational English.
Use neutral and formal vocabulary and try to use a wide range of vocabulary in your writing.
不要用俚語或口頭語。
使用中性詞和正式詞彙,在寫作時儘量使用各種不同的詞彙。
However, do not use a word just because you want to impress the examiner.
Many students do this and it's always really obvious, and it sounds bad as well.
但是,不要僅僅為了給閱卷老師留下深刻印象而使用某個單詞。
很多學生都會這麼做,這種做法太明顯了,而且效果也不好。
I know and I understand, you think, "I've learned this really interesting word and now I want to use it."
Okay, I understand, but you should choose your words because they're the best ways to express your ideas, not just because you think they sound good.
你可能會想:「我學了一個非常有意思的單詞,現在我想把它用上」,我知道你的意思,我也表示理解。
我理解,但是你選擇用這些詞應該是因為它們能最好地表達出你的想法,而不僅僅是因為你覺得它們聽起來很厲害的樣子。
