Young Heroes In The First Line

They had been sewing face masks, looking after children or teaching them, the students had been simply helping anywhere where it was needed. Some of them even entered the first lines.

The government sent medical students to help in the fight against the pandemic COVID-19, back in the half of the March. Before them there had been already existing groups of students who willingly offered to help in medical environment through social media. The number of student volunteers who signed up during the first days counted up to a few thousands.

The students of the senior year from the medical faculties and nursing schools were supposed to fill in the lack of personnel and to join different teams. Students from lower years also offered to help. They started to work not only in the hospitals, but even in the ambulance, in the regional sanitary stations or the infolines.

Students weren’t scared about the chance of infection. Especially the students of medicine fought with COVID-19 for tens, maybe even hundreds of hours. They also had been helpful with sorting the patients, they did well in the service of ambulance or they made their share on the organizational matters.

But there weren’t only future doctors and nurses, who helped. The number of young people, who did not hesitate to put on the face mask and go help others was large.

For another example students from law schools also joined the fight with COVID-19. During their free time they answered the questions about the labor law, cancelling of tours, tax obligations or the claim for damage. All this for free.

One thing is certain. This invisible enemy, pitiless COVID-19 managed to caught our society off guard. To all students and volunteers who helped belongs a great thank you. And it doesn’t matter how they fought in first line, whether it was in hospitals or just buying the groceries for elder people. Every help really counts.
