another/other(s)/the other(s)
這些不定代詞總的特點是：它們不僅在含義上有單複數之分， 而且在用法上有泛指(無the)和特指 (有the)之別。其具體用法可歸納如下：
1. 指單數時， 若是泛指用 another(若後接名詞一定是單數)， 若是特指用 the other (若後接名詞一定是單數)。如：
He finished his cake and asked for another (one)。 他吃完了那塊蛋糕後又要了一塊。(泛指)
Shut the other eye， too. 另一隻眼也閉上。(特指)
2. 指複數時， 若泛指用 other(若後接名詞一定是複數)， 若特指用the other(若後接名詞一定是複數)：
Other people may object to your idea. 別人可能會反對你的意見。
She is cleverer than the other students in her class. 她比班上的其他學生要聰明些。(特指)
3. others (表泛指)永遠表示複數意義(且其後不能再接名詞)， 其用法大致相當於「other 複數名詞」。同樣地 the others(表特指)也永遠表示複數意義(其後也不能接名詞)， 大致相當於「the other 複數名詞」。
