time是時間，但為什麼這個習語裡用tide和它並列使用？
因為tide最初並不是現代英語裡的 「潮汐」，即海洋的漲落。
Time and tide wait for no man是一個歷史悠久的習語，人們至少使用了700年。
在它被創造出來時，tide表達的是「一個季節，或者一段時間」。
tide的這種用法還體現在tidings（消息；音訊）這個詞彙裡，它與「浪潮」無關。
