of course minus one,but you know being able to come here deliver -okay for programs definitely know a lot of things that I can do better for a next competition, but overall you know satisfied and obviously happy with the results.
Your 3A has improved a lot, what clicked?
I don't know honestly the the triple axel definitely has been sort of something that I've been struggling for quite a long time over the past few seasons, the season so far has been my best season I think with your blocks low percentages and hope to continue that really.
How did you manage to make caravan your onw?
caravan yeah was definitely a little bit of a daunting task when I first started with it, and it's definitely it's definitely one of my more fun programs that I've ever done, and shaylen did an amazing job putting it together keeping things interesting keeping things fresh and I really love that about you know choreography every new season and I want something that is challenging in both something that you know creates a new style for me, a new sort of image for me so I think that was you know done really well on her half.
it's definitely very challenging in regards to the tempo of the program the music is really really fast meaning that I have to keep that same template throughout the program and then having quads and adding all the different you know checkmarks and bullet points throughout the program really adds up, but it's a really fun program and I really look before me
Peope call you quad king, quad god, etc, does that influence your skating?
not really you know, I've noticed people have called me a lot of different variations of quad over the past couple years since I started doing the quads but at the end of the I'm not perfect at quads and you know that's something that I still want to get better at, and I do appreciate the the acknowledgement of me doing all my different quads.but still you know a lot of work a lot of work to be done on them.
What makes rafael such a great coach?
I've worked with rafael for the past seven almost eight years ,he really knows me almost better than I know myself in terms of my skating, and he definitely helped bring my skating to another level both from a technical side and the components and artistic side.
he definitely pushed me into programs that I don't think I would have been comfortable with. when I was much younger and I don't think that I would have done that on my own choosing without him, you know really guiding me into that direction and I think that definitely helps me a lot as I progressed in skating and started tackling different styles of music and different programs just because I had like a solid foundation of choreography as a kid when the same thing goes with jumps he really helped develop my technique so that as I started getting stronger and getting more powerful I was able to start adding rotations and being pretty successful with it.
How did the 2002 olympics affect your skating?
having the Olympic Games in Salt Lake City was huge, you know you grew up in a town that was it was pretty small the time and there I guess before the 2002 games there wasn't really that much skating going on in Salt Lake City, but because of that a whole bunch of rinks were built around where I lived and it really helps develop my skating program in Salt Lake City, and through that I was able to you know find inspiration from the Olympians that were there in 2002.
and really strive towards something that I wanted to obtain in you know as many years as it would take and so it was really cool to have that sort of opportunity to grow up in an environment like that.
What advice would you give your younger self?
just remember to love the sport, of course there's times where we all have struggles on the ice we all have days where it's just you know really difficult to get on the ice and do the work that you need to do but at the end of the day it's worth it you know we get to come to beautiful places like here compete you know amongst the best skaters in the world ,and just experience this insane lifestyle which is amazing.
What does being a yale student mean to you?
I'm a huge honored to be a Yale student, you know it's a really amazing school and I'm really honored to be able to have the opportunity to to study at that school, and the students the faculty everyone at the school is amazing so to be able to be surrounded by intelligent minds that you know all are striving to make the world better is pretty awesome.
Why do you love your gold seal revolution blades?
from the very start when they first came out, I just I wanted them because they looked cool when that was the time we were just a black on the top and the silver blade and I had just looked so sick on the or it just looked so sick in general, and I was like this is so such a unique looking blade and as I started skating in them and you know growing into them it just became the right choice for me, they're just so comfortable on the ice you know anything that you need from them they adapt to your skating and really you know over the past few years have just gotten really found more and more in love with them they are exactly what I need every single time I step on the ice.
Who is the bigger hypebeast: Romain Ponsart or you?
hahaha Romain definitely bigger, happy she made me behind this he created this.
What's next for you and Romain?
we definitely need to take a vacation somewhere sometime soon in the future, but I'm excited to go back to California spend a little Christmas with him.
would you rather!
would you rather have your flight delayed by eight hours or lose your luggage?
oh I would say flight delay because at least you're gonna get there with your stuff.
One week of no internet or no phone?
I would say no phone nah I can still get along with my Mac.
would you rather live near mountains or beach?
it's kind of tough yes I guess mountains yeah I really love the beach, I love cat Southern California but I grew up in Salt Lake City next to mountains I think that's where I really like it
What do you want people to know about you?
I mean I guess at the end of the day I'm just a normal guy like anyone else you know we you know fortunately I'm able to do this this crazy thing in skating, and you know it's I've been really blessed to have you know the ability to do what I do, but outside of that you know I'm just a normal kid I have brothers sisters you know you know I'm close with my family and yeah I mean otherwise outside of the skating thing you know I'm super normal.

Nathan Chen, the defending champion, produced a spectacular free skate on Saturday to win the gold medal at the World Figure Skating Championships.
Chen, 19, who was first after the short program, made no mistakes and landed four quadruple jumps to finish with 323.42 points.
Chen, a freshman at Yale, opened with a quad Lutz and followed with a quad flip. The United States national champion, he then added two quad toe loops, one in combination, to solidify his lead.
「I’m proud of myself for being able to put out two good programs, the short and the long,」 Chen said. 「Ultimately, I’m just happy with how this event went, and I hope to have more experiences like this.」
Yuzuru Hanyu, a two-time Olympic champion, also had a strong free skate with four quads, but he could not erase a 12.53-point deficit and finished second with 300.97.
The American Vincent Zhou was third with 281.16 points.
Hanyu came back from a right ankle ligament injury in November. He was similarly injured in 2017 and returned at last year’s Pyeongchang Olympics, where he became the first male figure skater to win consecutive Olympic gold medals since Dick Button in 1948 and 1952.
「I lost, that is about it,」 Hanyu said. 「I think I did my best, but the problem is that in figure skating, competition consists of two days, and I am losing in both. It means that I simply do not have enough strength to win.」
The Olympic silver medalist Shoma Uno, the 2018 world championship silver medalist, was fourth.
Earlier, the defending champions Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron of France won the free dance to win gold in the ice dance.
Papadakis and Cizeron, first after the rhythm dance, received 134.23 points for their free dance for a total of 222.65 points and their fourth ice dance world title.
Victoria Sinitsina and Nikita Katsalapov of Russia were second with 211.76 points, followed by Madison Hubbell and Zachary Donohue of the United States, who moved up from fourth place to finish third with 210.40.
