寫日記說成「write a diary」，真的是太chinglish

英語中有許多固定搭配，

和我們漢語的邏輯大不相同，

那些我們念起來很順的搭配

直譯成英文其實不一定是對的!

Saying &34; implies that the person is writing a book, or a work of fiction, not a personal day-by-day memoir. By definition a diary is the personal accounts/reflections/feelings of the author. Usually folks that keep diaries use blank books/journals that are designed for that specific purpose.

說&34;暗示了這個人在寫一本書或者小說之類的，並不是某個人天天寫的回憶錄這種。從定義上講，「日記」是作者的個人記錄，反映自己的感受。通常寫日記的人使用的都是空白簿——專門為這個目的而設計的空白簿。

I write my diary doesn&39;s not like writing a novel. A diary is a book for writing in, it&39;t write your diary, you write things in it.

write my diary聽起來不太對，我總是用write in my diary。這不像寫小說。日記是一本用來寫東西的書，它已經是一個製造出來的東西了，你不是在write日記，而是在日記上面write東西。

例：

I used to keep a diary when I was young.

我還年輕的時候，習慣寫日記。

I&39;t know the meaning of a word, you consult a dictionary.

當你不知道一個字的意思時，你就請教或者查閱字典。

You can also consult a dictionary, an encyclopedia, or any other written reference.

你也可以查閱字典、百科全書或任何其他書面資料。

例：

If you don't know how to spell a word, consult a dictionary.

如果你不知道如何拼寫一個單詞，查字典。

look it up

look up是對你不知道的那個東西的進行查找，

但並沒有包含在哪查找的信息。

所以如果你要說在字典裡查，

那麼你就要說

look某個東西up in a dictionary。

look up的解釋是

to try to find a particular piece of information by looking in a book or on a list, or by using a computer

試圖通過查找書或列表或使用計算機來查找特定的信息

例：

I didn’t know what 『loquacious』 meant and had to look it up in a dictionary.

我不知道loquacious是什麼意思，只好查字典。
