Dr. Kwok, an associate professor of Chemistry Department in City University of Hong Kong, is an expert in nucleic acid chemistry and biology, particular in RNA biology, chemical biology, G-quadruplex structure, and aptamer. Recently he has published a series of research articles in prestigious journals including Nature, Nature Methods, Nature Communications, Nature Protocols, Genome Biology, Nucleic Acid Research, Angewandte Chemie International Edition, Chemical Science. In addition, he has obtained many awards owing to his excellent research including Royal Society International Exchange Fellowship, Croucher Innovation Award, CityU President Award, and etc. Also, he has been invited to write reviews and feature articles as corresponding author for prestigious journals such as Trends in Biochemical Sciences, Trends in Biotechnology, Nature Plants, Nature Chemical Biology, Cold Spring Harbor Perspectives in Biology, etc. (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/ ... amp;amp;sort=date). Since 2016, Prof. Kwok’s lab has established many collaboration projects with prestigious Universities (Cambridge University, Oxford University, Tsinghua University, National University of Singapore, Sun Yat-sen University, University of Hong Kong, Chinese University of Hong Kong, and etc.). For more information, please go to http://kitkwok.com for more details.
Our current research focus is to explore the role of RNA structures and interactions in biology, especially the functions of G-quadruplex structures/interactions and non-coding RNA structures/interactions in the mammalian transcriptome and their relevance to gene regulation, RNA metabolism and diseases. Two new research directions in the Kwok lab are to develop targeting tools for detection, imaging, intervention of these important RNA structures and interactions, as well as to invent innovative nucleic acid-based technologies for sensing chemical pollutants and biological toxins.
Research Themes
1) G-quadruplex structure and function
2) RNA biology and gene regulation
3) Aptamer development and application
