針對當前教育領域存在的一些違背規律、影響正常教育教學秩序問題，教育部要求切實減輕學生過重的課業負擔，堅決糾正各種隨意侵佔學生休息時間、加深課程難度、增減課程和課時等做法。

The principle of striving to develop students' all-round abilities in areas such as morals, intelligence, physical fitness, work and aesthetics has not changed since the founding of New China, but people seem to ignore that nowadays. 自新中國成立以來，努力培養學生德、智、體、美、勞全面發展的宗旨一直都沒有改變，但現在人們似乎已經忽略了這個宗旨。

上面的報導中，develop students』 all-round abilities是「培養學生的綜合能力」，也就是我們通常所說的「全面發展」，這裡的「全面」（all-round）涵蓋的範圍上文中也提到了，分別是morals（德）, intelligence（智）, physical fitness（體）, work（勞） and aesthetics（美）五個方面。

All-round在這裡的意思是「全面的，綜合的」，對學生來說就是各個方面都有所發展；那麼在我們的國家建設中，「全面建設小康社會」就是to advance China into a moderately prosperous society in an all-round way。而在體育界，all-round athlete就是「全能運動員」，去年奧運會上楊威拿到的體操「全能冠軍」則是all-round champion/title。
