英語中有許多容易混淆的詞，有些是同音異義，有些是形似異義，而有些是存在文化概念上的不同，今天這五組詞就屬於最後一種。
religion≠ethnicity
宗教≠種族
這兩個詞雖然存在一些重疊含義，但它們不能互換使用。
religion指的是你的信仰體系或對於某種程度上更高力量的崇拜（通常是上帝或神）。
Your religion refers to your system of belief or worship in a higher power of some kind (usually a God or gods).
而ethnicity則是指文化上被定義的身份。
Your ethnicity refers to your culturally defined identity.
historic≠historical
有歷史意義的≠歷史上的
historic指重要的歷史事件，表示「有歷史意義的；歷史上著名的」，
The historic building was damaged in the fire.
這座著名的歷史建築遭到大火損毀。
而historical指過去發生的事情，或者「與歷史相關的；根據歷史改編的」。
His historical novel was based on that historic movement.
他的歷史小說是以那場有歷史意義的運動為原型的。
有一句話區分就是，
not all historical events are historic，
並非所有歷史事件都具有歷史意義。
unique≠special
unique指「獨一無二的」，開頭的uni就是拉丁語中的「與眾不同」（one of a kind）。
嚴格意義上來講，地球上的每個人都是獨一無二的。unique不具有情感上的傾向性。
Every person on earth is unique.
但如果你想表達某個人對你而言很重要，special更合適，它表示「特別的，不同尋常的，迷人的」。
This is a special day for me.
這對我而言，是特別的一天。
introverted和shy都表示性格特徵，但表示的意思卻不一樣。
shy表示「害羞的」，指遇到新面孔時覺得不舒服，無所適從。
She tends to be nervous and shy.
她容易緊張害羞。
而introverted更像一個心理學概念，指通過個人追求來充實生命的能量，比如閱讀或思考。
He is introverted and like to express himself in writing.
他很內向，喜歡在寫作中表達自己。
這兩個詞都涉及對未來事件的預測，然而expect和anticipate反映的狀態不一樣。
當我們說expect，它反映了我們的精神狀態；而anticipate指的是我們已經為預期發生的事情做好了準備。
When we expect something, it reflects our state of mind. When we anticipate something, we are already preparing for what we expect will happen.
I expect to see my friend.
我期待見我的朋友。
I anticipate that the project can go on well.
我期望這個項目可以進展順利。
