Little的比較級和最高級分別為less，least；few的比較級和最高級分別為fewer，fewest。
Jim spends less time on maths,but he is much better at it.
吉姆在數學上花時間較少，卻比別人學得好。
Who made the fewest mistakes ?
Sorry,I’m afraid I can’t go with you.I』ve got much work to do.
對不起，恐怕我不能和你一起去了，我手頭有很多工作。
Many don’t agree to this plan.
有很多人不同意這項計劃。
Much of the work has been finished.
這份工作大部分已完成。
Many of my friend live abroad.
我的很多朋友住在國外。
（一）這幾個詞都表示數量，都可用作定語（有人稱作限定詞，也有人稱作形容詞）
1）many（用來修飾可數名詞）主要用在疑問句及否定句中，也可在肯定句中修飾主語等，還可和as，how，too，so等詞一起用
① Do you have many friends ?
你有很多朋友嗎？
（肯定句多用a lot of: He has a lot of friends.）
Not many men turned out for duty.
出勤人數不太多。
He didn’t make many mistakes.
他出錯並不多。
Not many people are interested in the activity.
沒有多少人對這活動感興趣。
② Many hands make light work.
眾人拾柴火焰高。
It will be difficult for you to smooth over your differences after so many years.
經過這麼多年，你想消除你們之間的分歧談何容易。
Many people today consider this shows sexual bias and try to avoid it.
如今很多人認為這種用法有性別偏見之嫌，因而儘量加以避免。
His knowledge spans many different areas.
他知識淵博，通曉很多領域。
③ With so many variables,the exact cost is difficult to estimate.
由於有許多可變因素，很難估算出確切的成本。
I know they only meant to help,but it was a case of too many cooks,I’m afraid.
我知道他們一心想幫忙，可惜人多反而壞了事。
How many times do the road and railway intersect (with one another) on this map ?
在這張地圖上公路與鐵路（彼此）交叉多少次？
2）much也表示「多」，但只能用來修飾不可數名詞，主要用於疑問句和否定句，也可在肯定句中和too，how，so等詞連用，或用在句首
① Do you take much interest in it ?
你對此和感興趣嗎？（肯定句多用a lot of: I』ve a lot of interest in it.我對此很感興趣。）
How much did you realize on those paintings ?
那些畫你賣了多少錢？
I can’t say offhand how much money I earn.
我一時說不上來我掙多少錢。
There’s not much sustenance in a glass of orange squash.
一杯橙汁飲料沒有多少營養。
② In politics there is too much talk and not enough action.
在zheng治方面向來是說得多做得少。
Too much wining and dining is making him fat.
他參加酒宴太多，身體發福了。
First of all,let’s see how much it will cost.
首先，讓我們看看要花多少錢。
We’re only going for two days;you don’t need to bring so much gear !
我們只去兩天，你不用帶那麼多東西！
有時用在肯定句中（特別是在美式英語或較正式的問題中）：
The news brought us much joy.
這消息使我們很高興。
There is much good in him.
他很善良。
I have much pleasure in introducing our speaker.
我很高興介紹我們的演講者。
3）few是many的反義詞，表示「很少」，用來修飾可數名詞複數
Books and friends should be few but good.
書與友，貴精不貴多。
Employers wouldn’t mind a little fewer bubbles in the job market.
As the wages were low,there were few applications for the job.
4）little是much的反義詞，也表示「很少」，但只能用來修飾不可數名詞，帶有否定意味，意思接近no
Diamonds have little intrinsic value and their price depends almost entirely on their scarcity.
鑽石本身沒什麼價值，其價格幾乎完全取決於其稀有性。
All her energies are focused upon her children and she seems to have little time for anything else.
她把所有精力都放在孩子身上，很少有時間去應付別的。
5）a few表示「幾個」，可修飾可數名詞複數，意思接近於some
We had a few anxious moments before landing safely.
And the best of all ways to lengthen our days is to steal a few hours from the night.
Happiness is a perfume you cannot pour on others without getting a few drops on yourself.
幸福猶如香水，你灑在別人身上時，自己也會沾上一兩滴。
You must not lose faith in humanity.Humanity is an ocean;if a few drops of the ocean is dirty,the ocean does not become dirty.
不要對人性失去信心，人性好比大海，雖有幾滴水是髒的，但整個大海仍是純淨的。
6）a little表示「有一點」，可修飾不可數名詞，意思也接近於some
The world is but a little place,after all.
天涯原咫尺，何處不相逢。
A man knows his companion in a long journey and a little inn.
路遙知馬力，日久見人心。
With a little more forethought,we could have bought the house we really want.
我們當初若是再多考慮一下，也許就能買到我們真正想要的房子了。
（二）這些詞還可用在句中作主語、表語、賓語等
1）many表示「很多東西或人」，代表可數名詞
Many called but few are chosen.
打電話（面試）的人多，選上的人少。
Many would say that crime and poverty is interrelated (with one another).
2）much表示「好多」，可代表不可數的東西
Much has been done to protect our environment.
為了保護環境我們已經做了很多工作。
Much hangs on his decision.
許多事有賴於他的決定。
Not much is known about his background.
人們對他的背景所知不多。
3）few是many的反義詞，表示「很少」，可代表可數名詞複數
Few of the players played really well.
沒幾個球員真正打得好。
We saw few of the sights as we had so little time.
我們只有一丁點時間，所看的景點寥寥無幾。
4）little是much的反義詞，表示「很少」，只代表不可數名詞的東西，意思接近於nothing
You have done very little for us.
你幾乎沒為我們做什麼事。
He had little to tell us.
他沒什麼可告訴我們的。
You eat too little.
你吃得太少。
5）a few有肯定的意思，表示「有幾個（一些）」，代表可數的東西
Only a few of the people who applied were suitable.
只有少數幾個申請者合適。
I knew a few of the people there.
那兒的人我認識幾個。
6）a little也有肯定的意思，表示「一點兒」，代表不可數的東西
Try and eat a little.
儘量吃一點吧。
Tell me a little about his illness.
告訴我一點他的病情。
If you have got any spare milk,could you give me a little ?
如果你有多餘的牛奶，可以多給我一點嗎？
7）not a little,quite a little,not a few,quite a few
Not a little意為「很多」，相當於much；not a few意思為「很多」，相當於many；quite a little的意思和用法與not a little相同，quite a few的意思和用法與not a few相同。
We needn’t hurry.There is not a little / quite a little time left.
我們沒有必要著急，還有很多時間。
You』ve made not a few / quite a few mistakes.
你犯了很多錯。
8）only/just a little與only/just a few
only/just a little的意思為「僅一點點」，相當於a little；only/just a few的意思為「僅幾個」，相當於a few。
I know only/just a little Japanese.
我只懂一點日語。
Every year,I send out many cards,but receive only/just a few.
每年我寄出很多賀卡，但收到很少。
