很多廣州市民經常會在電視裡或者在地鐵的屏幕上，看到一個光頭的加拿大人熱情洋溢地帶著大家學習英語。而這個加拿大人，就是我們今天的主角——戴偉。戴偉算得上是全廣州最出名的英語老師，他憑借自己的努力、勤奮、和追求完美的精神，在廣州這座城市，建立起了一個屬於自己的成熟的英語學習圈子。
For many of Guangzhou’s residents, a bald Canadian enthusiastically smiling and inviting viewers to learn English from television screens installed in residential complexes and the Guangzhou Metro may be quite a familiar sight. The man behind the smile, David Klinck - arguably Guangzhou’s most well recognized English teacher - has built up a small English-learning empire in the city, thanks to a lot of hard work, tenacity, dedication and a passion for perfection.
今天，我們就帶大家了解一下這位全廣州最出名的英語老師。
Today, we learn what it takes to become the most famous English teacher in Guangzhou.
戴偉的故事要從2006年，他在北京讀書那時說起。那時還是學生的戴偉，就希望可以自己創業，通過自己的努力創出自己的一片天。而他就是帶著這個夢想，來到了廣州，他說他一下子就被廣州發展的速度、這座城市無限的活力，還有廣州人民的熱情深深地吸引了。
David’s China story began in Beijing where he was a student. In 2006, David decided to leave his school days behind and pursue a new identity as an entrepreneur. That thirst brought him to Guangzhou, a city that blew him away with its speed of development, 「the overall energy of the city」 and the 「passion of the people who live here.」
戴偉說，他也被廣州濃厚的的創業氛圍所吸引。他說:「人們總是在談論著他們的創業項目，並且一直在開拓新思維去創業。這裡的多樣性也讓人著迷，每個地區都有『不同的氛圍』，但都是廣州的一部分」。
David was also enticed by the entrepreneurial atmosphere that exists here in Guangzhou. According to David, 「people (here) always talk about projects they want to work on and are always looking for new ideas to start businesses.」 The diversity of the districts within the city also charmed him, with each area boasting 「different vibes yet (being) all part of the same city.」
時間回到2018年，戴偉現在已經擁有了一個有獨特經營模式的英語培訓中心，並擁有很多粉絲學員。他的英語培訓中心的經營模式類似於健身房，你可以辦會員卡，會員可以在空閑的時候參加任何課程。戴偉說這樣可以幫助工作繁忙的都市人，在忙碌的日程中，可以抽出任何空閑時間繼續學習和進修。但這也並不是他成功的唯一原因，因為他不僅有一套自己的商業運營模式，還非常懂得推廣和營銷，除此之外，他還能保持工作和生活的平衡。
Fast forward to 2018 and David is the proud owner of an English training center in the City of Flowers with a unique business model and a huge fan base. Similar to your typical gym, David’s English center offers membership cards allowing 「members」 to join classes at their leisure, whenever they wish - a model David chose to help busy urbanites tailor their learning experience around their busy schedules. But that is not the only reason behind David’s success; his holistic approach to business, education and promotion, in addition to a healthy balance of work and pleasure, have brought David success and recognition.
戴偉的座右銘就是是「成功最基本的條件就是創造價值」！大衛說:「為了創造價值，你不僅需要有新的想法，還需要有能讓人或社會受益的思維。」戴偉多年的教學經驗，讓他看到了在英語學習市場中，創造價值的機會，也看到了很多現在英語培訓中心的缺點：需要安排具體時間、需要專業人士和許多課程材料。為了解決這些問題，大衛直接了當地開發了一門全新的課程，不僅能幫助學習者改善他們的發音和糾正他們的語法，還能教大家正確的學習方法。
David’s motto seems to be 「the most basic requirement for success is value creation.」 According to David, 「to create value, you not only need to have new ideas but ideas that will benefit people or society.」 David saw an opportunity to create value in the English learning market after teaching for a number of years and witnessing the areas in which existing centers tended to fail: scheduling, professionalism and course materials. To combat these problems, David went straight to the drawing board and developed an entirely new curriculum that would not only help learners improve their pronunciation and grammar but also their approach to learning.
但通往成功的道路並不總是一帆風順，而廣州濃厚的創業氛圍，對於創業者來說，可能也是一把雙刃劍。戴偉說，在廣州做生意的困難就是，似乎每個人做生意，這也意味著競爭非常激烈！但戴偉也非常贊揚廣州的相關部門，為那些在廣州創業的人，制定了一些列的優惠政策和利好的規章制度。
The road to success hasn’t always been a smooth one, and Guangzhou’s entrepreneurial atmosphere can sometimes be a double-edged sword. According to David, the difficulty in doing business in Guangzhou is that everyone seems to be doing business in Guangzhou, meaning competition is fierce. However, David praises the local government for making local rules and regulations clear for those who go about starting up companies in Guangzhou.
而對於戴偉來說，他在中國最大的挑戰，其實就是他需要遠離他加拿大摯愛的家人。任何能看待戴偉朋友圈的人，都知道他是個戀家的人，尤其是每次他媽媽來廣州旅遊，他都會變成「曬媽狂魔」哈哈！戴偉對家人的強烈愛，也讓他心碎，他說他永遠無法忘記那次某位親人去世，而他卻只能在地球的另一端。對他來說，這是最艱難的時期，「這對我來說是非常艱難的，對我的家庭來說，也是非常難過的。」在那次失去親人之後，他意識到生命是短暫的，所以我們必須以最好的方式去生活！
On a more personal note, the biggest challenge for David along his China journey has been being so far away from his beloved family. David’s love for his family is evident to anyone who follows him on his WeChat, as his mother features prominently in his posts whenever she makes the trip to Guangzhou. David’s intense love for his family has also brought him heartbreak, as he has lived through losing a number of loved ones while being on the other side of the planet. For David, those were some of the toughest times, and in his own words, 「it was very hard for me, and also very hard for (my family.) But after losing so many loved ones, you need to realize that life is really short and it has to be lived in the best way possible.」
故此，戴偉也是盡情地在享受廣州的生活！他每天下班後，就會在他的音樂工作室作曲、填詞、錄制音樂，閑時會和他的狗一起爬山，也會去健身房鍛煉身體，有時也會在電視節目上接受採訪。盡管他說「沒有那麼多空閑時間」，但他卻充分利用自己的業餘時間，盡情地在廣州，這座具有無限活力的城市，享受生活，享受人生！
And boy, does David make the most of his life here in Guangzhou. Whenever he can drag himself away from his treasured training center, David is in the music studio writing, composing and recording music, climbing mountains with his dogs, working out at the gym or even appearing as a guest on local TV shows. Despite 「not having that much free time,」 David uses his spare moments to relax and make the most of being in one of Asia’s most energetic and vibrant cities.
我們既然採訪了這位著名的英語老師，當然要順便問問他學習英語的最佳方法。戴偉說:「學習英語最好的方法就是擁有一個良好的學習系統，這會讓你每天都能制定並達到語言目標。」他還強調，多接觸該語言的母語人士，這可以讓你改正英語上的許多錯誤，而其中很多錯誤你會習以為常認為是對的。對戴偉來說，在學習一門語言時，享受在學習過程並獲得無限的樂趣會幫助我們吸收，但高質量的教學和良好的學習方式，才是能學好一門語言的關鍵。
Of course, we couldn’t interview a famed English teacher without asking for advice on the best way to actually learn English. According to David, 「the best way is to find a good system where you can meet specific language goals every day. David also emphasizes that exposure to a native speaker is crucial to avoid reinforcing mistakes that you assume are acceptable. For David, having fun whilst learning a language does have its merits, but to him it, is always secondary to quality teaching and a good system.
