在看美劇的時候聽到這樣一句話：
I learnt these songs at my mother's knee.
這句話沒有一個難詞，唯一生僻一點的詞是knee，意思是「膝蓋」。
可以想像，at my mother's knee意思直譯則為「坐在媽媽的腿上」。孩子長大了一般不會再「坐在媽媽的腿上」，因此，可以理解為「小時候；孩提時，年幼時」。這麼看來，這個表達還是相當形象的。
查閱權威詞典，看到這樣的釋義(見下圖)：
at your mother's knee: If you learned something at your mother's knee, you learned it when you were a child.
那麼上面那句話意思就很明確了：
I learnt these songs at my mother's knee.
我小時候學過這些歌曲。
再來看幾個樣例：
I learned how to bake at my mother's knee.
我小時候就學會了烘焙。
I learned to speak French at my mother's knee.
我孩提時就學了法語。
實際上，knee還有一個好的表達，在現實生活中也經常用到：
go down on one kneee 單膝下跪
例如：
