1.序數詞在句子中的作用
① 作主語，前面通常加定冠詞 the。
The first is much better than the second. 第一比第二好多了。
② 作定語
He lives on the fourteenth floor. 他住在第十四層。
③ 作賓語
She was among the first to swim across the river. 她是第一批遊過河的人。
④ 作狀語
We can't decide who should go first. 我們還不能決定誰將第一個走。
Second,you mix the mud with water. 第二步，用水將泥巴攪拌在一起。
⑤ 作表語
Who is first and who is second? 誰是第一？誰是第二？
You will be the third to leave the house. 你將是第三個離開房子的人。
2.序數詞前加不定冠詞的情況
序數詞前面加不定冠詞，表示「再一」「又一」。如：
When I sat down,a third man left quietly. 當我坐下後，第三個人悄悄離開了。
Even if you failed,you would have a second chance. 即使你考試不及格，你也會有第二次機會。
3.序數詞前不加定冠詞的情況
序數詞前已經有限定詞時，不再加定冠詞。如：
Yao Ming is China's first tallest basketball player. 姚明是中國最高的籃球運動員。
Last weekend they celebrated their mother's fortieth birthday. 上周末，他們慶祝媽媽的四十歲生日。
