英語的介詞雖然是虛詞，但對於英語這種語言來講卻非常重要，英語中的習語，幾乎都離不開介詞。有人說英語就是介詞的語言，正因為介詞超強的組合能力，著名詩人余光中才認為「介詞是英語的潤滑劑」。
根據美國語言學家柯姆教授的統計，英語中的介詞有280多個。如果按照其結構來分類的話，可以有四種：簡單介詞，如 in，on，at，of 等等；雙重介詞如 along by，from under 等；合成介詞如 into，outside，without等；介詞成語如 in front of 等。
如果按功能分類，介詞可以分為表示表示地點和範圍的介詞、表示時間的介詞、表示方式的介詞、表示目標和趨向的介詞等，今天是介詞介紹的第四篇，我們介紹表示時間的介詞。
