Dream of the Red Chamber,also called The Story of the Stone, composed by Cao Xueqin, is one of China's Four Great Classical Novels. Long considered amasterpiece of Chinese literature, the novel is generallyacknowledged to be the pinnacle of Chinese fiction.
Red Chamber is believed tobe semi-autobiographical, mirroring the rise anddecline of author Cao Xueqin's own family and, by extension, of the QingDynasty. As the author details in the first chapter, it is intended to be amemorial to the damsels[girls] he knew in his youth: friends, relatives andservants.
The novel is remarkablenot only for its huge cast of characters and psychological scope, but also forits precise and detailed observation of the life and social structures typicalof 18th-century Chinese society.

Pekingopera, or Beijing opera, is a form of Chinese opera which combines music, vocal performance, mime, dance and acrobatics.It arose in the late 18th century and became fully developed and recognized bythe mid-19th century. The form was extremely popular in the Qingdynasty court and has come to be regarded as one of thecultural treasures of China.
Therepertoire of Peking opera includes over 1,400 works, which are based onChinese history, folklore and, increasingly, contemporary life.

ACCTV history program that blends documentary and drama with elements of varietyshow in the hope of promoting the protection of prized cultural legacies hasbecome a hit since its debut earlier this month.
「NationalTreasure」 is the first Chinese TV program to take this mash-up approach. Itconsists of 10 episodes airing on Sundays on Channel Three of CCTV.
Eachepisode showcases three artifacts, each presented by a celebrity and an expertwho act as "national treasure keepers." The treasure keepers tell thestories behind the pieces and uncover the mysteries that surround them.
