LONDON, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- The fourth strike of subway workers since August disrupted the subway service in London on Monday, causing lines partly suspended or stations closed.
The latest 24-hour protest which began on 18:30 GMT on Sunday forced about 80 stations closed and all lines at least partly suspended.
Members of the Transport Salaried staffs' Association (TSSA) and the Rail, Maritime and Transport Union(RMT) staged the strike to protest against the plans to cut ticket office jobs.
"The cynical refusal of the tube bosses to accept a 12-week pause to this dispute to allow a full safety review of the cuts plans station-by-station has led to the disruption," RMT General Secretary Bob Crow said.
But Mike Brown, London Underground's managing director, said, "Services are operating on virtually all lines this morning despite the pointless strike."
"We are doing everything we can to get as many tube services as possible operating and to keep Londoners on the move with extra buses, river services, and other alternatives," he added.
Local media estimated that commuter disruption on the London Underground could drag on into the new year after both sides turned down compromise proposals to break the deadlock.
