CAT4是GL Assessment針對6-17歲學生研發的線上考試體系，已得到許多英國私立學校的高度認同，該測試能夠了解學生的認知能力，而不是通過對特定科目知識體系去評判學生。
每年有超過75萬學生參加CAT4考試，無論是CAT4的練習、指引還是測試，都在電腦上完成。
在考試過程中，系統會根據學生每道題目的測試結果及時調整後面的題目，測試完成後老師可以在短時間內獲得分數，評估準確並可靠，而且會結合生成大數據的圖表分析，有助於了解每個學生的各個階段的學習情況。
CAT4測試的目的包括：
其一，發掘潛力，找出有學術潛力和能力的學生；
其二，了解學生的優勢和缺點，讓老師和家長能夠更好的為學生提供額外的學術支持與指導；
其三，有助於教師確定適合學生的學習速度，更好地因材施教。
該測試備受英國預備小學的歡迎，每年都安排全校學生參加CAT4能力測試，以此作為老師教學計劃的依據以及每個學生的目標中學規劃。
眾所周知的伊頓公學、哈羅公學和拉格比中學都對類似於CAT4的ISEB Pretest考試青睞有加。除了UKiset，很多英國私校也用CAT4作為海外學生的錄取考試。
CAT4測試分為四項，分別為文字推理（Verbal Reasoning），數字推理（Quantitative Reasoning），邏輯推理（Non-verbal Reasoning）和空間推理（Spatial Reasoning），算上每項測試之間的休息，通常完成整個測試的時間為兩個半小時左右。
測試孩子的英文語言水平，需要一定的閱讀能力和詞彙積累。測試分為文字分類（Verbal Classification）和文字類比（Verbal Analogies），包括同義詞，反義詞，字母填空，連字等等，測試語言掌握能力。例如：

數字推理 (Quantitative Reasoning)
分為數字類比(Number Analogies) 和數字順序(Number Series)，考察學生解決數值和數據問題的能力。例如：

邏輯推理 (Non-verbal Reasoning)
分為圖形分類（Figure Classification) 和圖形變換矩陣 (Figure Matrices)，通過二維圖形和圖表來測試學生的思維能力，其中包含很多類似智商測試的問題。例如：
(1)圖形分類（Figure Classification)
Three designs are presented which are similar in some way ,from a selection of five possible answers,identify a fourth design with similar properties.
(2)圖形變換矩陣 (Figure Matrices)
Designs are presented in a grid with one empty square and ,from a selection of five possible answers,identify the missing design.
分為圖形分析 (Figure Analysis) 和圖形辨識 (Figure Recognition)，通過三維圖形，圖表和思考空間的能力，測試學生的思維能力。例如：
（1）圖形辨識 (Figure Recognition)
Several complex designs are presented along with a single target shape.from a selection of five possible answers,identify the target shape within one of the complex designs.
（2）圖形分析 (Figure Analysis)
A series of diagrams shows a square being folded repeatedly,and then punched through with holes.From a selection of five possible answers,identify how the paper will appear when unfolded.
CAT4測試標準化的測試順序為：
邏輯推理 --> 文字推理 --> 數字推理--> 空間推理
CAT4測試有七種不同的難度等級，分為A到G級。另外，級別X和Y針對CAT4幼兒學習者。每一級都分為不同的年齡，下表顯示了每個測試級別對應的年級組別和年齡範圍。
英國學校通過孩子的年齡範圍和年級組別選擇合適的CAT4測試等級。一般準備入讀頂尖中學的學生會選擇考C-D等級，準備申請GCSE的學生會選擇等級E-F的CAT4測試，備考A-Level入學的學生會選擇等級G。
為了更客觀的評估學生的真正能力，GL Assessment會將學生CAT4成績與其他同年級組別或年齡範圍的平均分作比較，最後得到規範分，包括四項內容：
標準年齡分數（Standard Age Scores-SAS）
全國百分值（National Percentile Rank-NPR）
標準九分值（Stanine-ST）
同組排序（Group Rank-GR）
英國的平均分數是100分，得分在89~111分之間屬於普通平均水平，低於74分屬於認知能力極低，高於127分以上，說明孩子的認知能力極高，屬於同年級組全英認知能力頂尖的5%人群。如果得分在140分左右屬於極其優秀，非常少見。
