詞根：spec, spi(c), scop = to look(看), to observe(觀察)
1. respect
助記：re(回頭，反覆)+ spec(看)→回頭看，反覆看→重視，尊敬
釋義：vt.尊重;尊敬;關心;遵守;n.尊重，恭敬
舉例：
(1) I respect his judgment and I'll follow any advice he gives m.
我尊重他的判斷能力，會接受他提出的任何建議。
(2) His voice was warm with friendship and respect.
他的聲音裡充滿了友善和敬意。
2. expect
助記：ex(向外)+ spec(看)→向外看，向遠處看→盼望，預期
釋義：v. 期望;預料;要求
舉例：
(1) Don't expect me to come and visit you there.
別指望我會去那兒看你。
(2) How can you expect me to believe your promises?
你怎能指望我相信你的承諾?
3. conspicuous
助記：con(加強)+ spic(看，觀察)+ous(形容詞後綴)→大家都看，非常惹眼→惹人注目的
釋義：adj. 明顯的，惹人注意的
舉例：
It is conspicuous that smoking is harmful to health.
很明顯，抽菸對健康有害。
4. despise
助記：de(向下)+ spise(看)→向下看，看扁了→鄙視
釋義：v. 鄙視，蔑視
舉例：
Don't cheat at examination, or your classmates will despise you.
考試不要作弊, 否則同班同學會輕視你的。
5. telescope
助記：tele(遠的)+ scope(能看到的範圍)→能使人看到遠處的物體→望遠鏡
釋義：n. 望遠鏡
舉例：
Like a telescope, it has a curved mirror to collect the sunlight.
和望遠鏡一樣，它有一個曲面鏡可以積聚陽光。
