英語學習中，我們經常會遇到一些容易混淆的詞語，尤其是使用它們的時候，常常會傻傻分不清楚。今天，普特君就和大家講講其中一組，already和all ready。它們是什麼意思？什麼時候應該使用哪一個呢？
1.already的定義
already是一個副詞，意思是「已經」、「早已」、「先前」。如果使用already，說明討論的是過去已經發生過的事情，通常用於描述某一特定時間順序的事物，比如：
When you mentioned that the tapes might be useful, I already had them in secure storage.
當你說磁帶可能有用的時候，我已經將它們存放在安全的地方了。
The teacher was surprised when Bobby earned an 80% on the quiz seeing as his typical scores were around 40% and 50%; it turned out that he had already read the book and studied it.
當Bobby在考試中得到了80%的分數時，老師非常吃驚，因為他通常的分數在40%和50%左右；原來他已經讀過這本書並研究過了。
上面兩個例子，討論的行為（把磁帶放在安全的地方和看書）都發生在之前。already的一些同義詞包括by this time, thus far, so far, hitherto, before等。
2.all ready的定義
all ready的意思則完全不同。它是一個先行詞（all）和一個形容詞（ready）組合在一起。它與時間無關，相反，all ready討論的是關於某事，某人是否做好了準備。說all ready意味著已經完全或徹底準備好了，比如：
I thought that Larry was all ready for the presentation, but it turned out that he had not even begun his preparations!
我以為Larry已經做好了作報告的準備，結果發現他甚至還沒開始準備呢。
The dance class starts in two minutes; are you all ready to get started or do I need to bring you anything?
舞蹈課會在兩分鐘內開始，你們都準備好了嗎？或者需要我帶什麼東西嗎？
all ready的同義詞包括completely ready, all set, very ready, very prepared, ready to go, equipped, primed, geared up等。
3.什麼時候使用already和all ready？
使用already的情況：
①討論的事情是過去已經發生的
②遇到已完成的請求
③如果發生了事故、事件或其他與時間有關的事情
使用all ready的情況：
①詢問準備情況
②期待將來發生的事情
注意：使用all ready的時候需要注意，如果跟在you後面可能會引起歧義。如果問「Are you all ready」，被詢問的對象可能有些困惑，因為「you all」通常用於指代一群人。英語中的you實際上是沒有複數形式的，而「you all」是代詞，可能會引起歧義。如果遇到這種情況，最好的解決方法就是用前面提到的同義詞來代替「all ready」。
