Good morning, fellow students. 親愛的同學們，大家早上好！
When winter dances and circles in the air，當冬日的舞步迴旋，
When the rejoice of a new year is around the corner，當歲末的歡欣將至，
here comes the annual English Festival of Zhabei No.8 Middle School， 一年一度的閘北八中英語節如約來到，
with various campus activities to be unveiled，豐富多彩的校園活動即將登場，
Through dubbing, guessing English riddles, poem recitals, singing English songs and designing English posters, we are going to immerse ourselves in authentic English expressions as well as the dense academic atmosphere, thus letting the color of youth grow and glow.
通過英語配音、猜謎、朗誦、歌曲、黑板報等各種形式，我們將暢享浸潤式的英語表達，感受濃鬱的學科氛圍，更讓青春綻放光彩。
The theme of this year’s English festival is 「A Small Stage of English, A Big Vision of the World」. On the afternoon of December 31st, accompanied by the New Year’s Bell, each class will hold a unique English party to welcome the new year. These wonderful moments will be enshrined in the wonderful memory of 2020.
今年閘北八中的英語節主題為：英語小舞臺，國際大視野。12月31日下午，我們將伴著跨年的鐘聲，一同迎來各班獨一無二的迎新英語盛會，為2020留駐最美好的回憶。
「Can you see the love tonight? It is where we are.」I remember the first time I watched Lion King as an unenlightened kid, I was definitely impressed. I am obsessed with the delicate plots of Agatha Chrisite’s novels as well as her outstanding word fluency. On hearing lectures like Martin Luther King’s 「I have a dream」, and Steve Jobs』 「Stay foolish, stay hungry」, great aspiration fills my heart; when watching British or US TV series, l may burst into laughters or frown as the stories unfold.
「今晚你能感受到我的愛嗎？它是如此如影隨行。」仍猶記，懵懂孩提時，第一次看《獅子王》，就被這部電影和歌聲深深打動。我陶醉於阿加莎克裡斯蒂的精巧布局，更沉醉於其文字的流暢自然。我為馬丁路德金《我有個夢想》、史蒂夫賈伯斯《求知若飢,虛心若愚》等演講激情澎湃，也為一眾英劇美劇或捧腹或皺眉……
English has kept my company for more than two decades, which enables me to travel afar and make friends. I still remember the three years living abroad. It was through the means of English that I forged profound friendship with American colleagues, friends and students. I still remember the cordial hospitality from the honest folks in Esfahan, Iran, just because of a simple conversation in English with them.
二十餘載與英語朝夕相伴，讓我能夠暢行萬裡路，廣交八方友。還記得，三年的海外生活，通過英語流暢溝通，我和美國的同事、學生、朋友結下深厚友誼；還記得，在伊朗古城伊斯法罕由於一段英語攀談，而收到淳樸當地人的熱情款待……
Throughthe study of English, the language used by most countries in the world, I get exposed to more movies, TV, poems and novels. I get to know the difference between English and my native language Chinese; I begin to savor the diversity of foreign and Chinese cultures; by paying attention to the similarities and differences, I improve my thinking ability; by setting appropriate English learning objectives, I am developing my learning ability continuously. Step by step, my world gets bigger.
通過學習英語——這門世界上使用國家最多的語言，我接觸到了更多電影、電視、詩歌、小說；我明白英語和我的母語之間的差異，我意識到中外文化間的迥然，通過關注差異和共性，我訓練自己的思維品質，通過設置適切的英語學習目標，我在不斷提升學習能力。漸漸地，我的世界變得更大。
Thanks to the command of English, one of the universal languages, I notice more common ground among human beings, and that is the pursuit of truth, highest good and beauty. Just as Professor Mei Deming from Shanghai International Studies University said, language embodies a person’s comprehensive quality. It’s not only our eyes and mouth, but also our mind. It’s the collision of thoughts and ideas. So I am willing to guide my students to walk into English and cultivate the key competences in them.
由於掌握英語——這門世界通用語言，世界的距離一下子被拉近，我看到更多人與人的共同之處，求真至善向美。正如上外梅德明教授所言：語言是人的全面體現，它不光是我們的眼和嘴，更是我們的大腦，是我們思維和觀點的碰撞。我也願意在我的教學崗位上，引領我的孩子們走進英語，提升素養。
After ten years』 English study, I fully understand the spirits between the lines of Simba, 「This is my kingdom. If I don’t fight for it, who will?」 Doesn’t it convey the same sense of responsibility when all the Chinese daughters and sons in a joint fight against the Covid-19 pandemic say, 「If there is a call for battle, I will return」?
十年寒窗，今日再看，我終於懂得了小獅子辛巴「這是我的國土，我不為她而戰，誰為？」一席話中的精神內涵。這不正是新冠疫情肆虐時，所有華夏兒女「若有戰，召必回」一樣的使命在肩。
The year 2020 is doomed to be unusual. We are in the worst need of a common language among all nations than EVER. In the meanwhile, English is overwhelmingly becoming the language of problem solving across the world.
是呀，2020註定是個不尋常的年份。我們比以往任何一個時期相比，更需要用共同的語言解決共同的問題,而英語現在正在勢不可擋地成為全球解決問題的語言。
On the right way forward, China is marching to national rejuvenation.
走在人間正道，邁向民族復興。
The voice of friendly and peace-loving Chinese should be heard.
和平友好的中國人的聲音應該被聽到。
The landscape along the Chinese Road with a stable economy, people well-being, and a promising future, should be witnessed.
經濟平穩、人民安康、未來可期的中國道路的風景應該被看到。
No doubt the future of our nation lies in you, you and you, all the youth. So does the hope of our country. Our right way forward needs more aspiring young men, who are equipped with global vision and national spirits.
民族的未來在青年。國家的希望在青年。這條正道通途需要更多擁有國際視野、民族精神的有志青年。
So, folks, let’s furrow together a noble soul and a radiant heart,
八中人，讓我們豐盈內心，
Let’s edify virtue and regulate our moral behavior,
八中人，讓我們陶鑄德行，
Let’s care for the world and embrace it Wholeheartedly.
八中人，讓我們心懷天下。
A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. May we root ourselves in the fertile field of Zhabei No.8 Middle School, and shine on the small stage of English.
千裡之行始於足下。願我們在八中的沃土中，閃耀英語小舞臺，
May we get nurtured by the hardship of winter, and ignite the strong will of going forward.願我們在嚴冬的滋養下，點亮前行的花火。
Let’s fly together with our dream，與夢想一同起飛，
Let’s rise side by side with our beloved motherland，與祖國一同起飛，
and walk onto a broader stage of the world.走向更為寬廣的世界舞臺。
