非常感謝梅老師 家長會和同學們給予我一個機會在12月11號和同學們分享勇氣的體會。
I am so grateful that Teacher Mei, the parent committee, and the entire class were able to give me an opportunity to share my perspectives about 「courage」 on December 11.
最初聽到家長和同學們有互動的機會時就覺得這是一個非常好的理念,就希望找時間能參與。在眾多可能的選題中, 我選擇了勇氣這本書。 同學們在成長過程中需要很大的勇氣去面對 問題,克服困難和承擔責任。同時把一個抽象的概念和精神對一年級的小同學講也是一個挑戰。
I found this a great concept for the parents and the students to interact with each other in the classroom about various topics and was seeking a chance to get involved. Among so many possible topics, I chose the book titled 「Courage」. To me, during their development, the students need a lot of courage to face issues, overcome difficulties and take responsibilities. It would also be a challenge to explain such abstract concept and spirit to the first graders.
開始準備和大家分享勇氣這本書, 但讀下來後感到書裡面例子很多但沒有重點。一般在講演中大多聽眾只能記住一到三條信息 (更不用說一年級學生)。鑑於論語中有勇者不懼 仁者有勇等思想,我把勇氣歸納成不懼 堅持和擔當三個重點和同學分享。一來比較同學們可能容易記住,勇氣那本書上有很多例子可以支持這三個重點。二來和我們古人的教導一脈相承, 同時有許多有勇氣的英雄人物故事可以學習(如黃繼光,董存瑞,錢學森,屠呦呦,鄧亞萍,鍾南山等)。
Initially I prepared to merely discuss the book with the students. However, although the book illustrates many examples of courage, students may lose focus after reading the book. In general, after a presentation, the audience may merely remember one to three key points in the talk, not to mention the first graders. Given our ancient teaching that 「those who have courage overcome fear」 and 「ones of character have courage」, I classify courage into three values: valor, grit, and responsibility, which are well supported by the examples in the book and easy to remember. Additionally, these values are in line with our historical teaching and illustrated by many of our heroes of courage (e.g., Jiguan Huang, Chunrui Dong, Xuesheng Qian, Youyou Tu, Yaping Deng, Nanshan Zhong)
整個分享互動過程也是非常難忘的一次經歷。在梅老師的精心教育下, 同學們很有紀律, 又積極的舉手 發言 參與和一起演示。我在用伏地挺身做「堅持」的演示時,大多同學站在我旁邊給我鼓勵數次數,有三位小同學索性直接我身下的地面來給我勇氣。我要是不被笑趴下的話 大概還可以再堅持。最後的幾分鐘內 我有加了點附加項 -用中英和西班牙語和大家一起講你好 謝謝 再見 來愉快的結束這場活動。以後同學們要說歐啦,可能不是我們平時說的」好了」, 而是西班牙語的HOLA (你好)。
The entire event was unforgettable. The students were well disciplined but actively engaged in the process by raising their hands, ask and answer many questions. And they actively participated in the interacting activities. When I used push-ups to show the grit, many students stood by my side and counted the number of my push-ups to show their their support. Three students simply lied underneath me. I could have done more push-ups had I not laughed so much. In the last remaining few minutes of the presentation, I added a language part (just for fun) to share with the students as to how to say 「hello」, 「thank-you」 and 「goodbye」 in English and Spanish and end the event nicely. It is possible that some students may say 「O-LA」 which may not mean 「Okey」 but 「HOLA」 in Spanish (meaning Hello).
希望同學們從勇氣的故事中體會到克服害怕的勇氣,堅持實現自己夢想的勇氣-即使在多次失敗的情況下,和承擔責任的勇氣。同學們在成長過程中不免的會遇到各種困難和挫折,但是,一個勇氣的小故事或一個讓我們崇拜的英雄人物的勇氣都可能會幫助他們克服難關, 戰勝失敗,走向成功。小則是對自己對家人的擔當,大的是對社會對國家承擔起自己的責任。梁啓超先生說過 少年強則國家強 – 而今天同學們的勇氣是少年強的一部份。
Hopefully, through discussing courage this time, the students may learn the courage of overcoming fears, the courage of insisting on achieving their dreams even in face of multiple failures, and the courage of taking responsibility. In their growth, they will inevitably encounter various challenges or difficulties, but a story about courage or a hero they remember will help them to overcome the difficulties to achieve their success. In a small scale, they can become a responsible person for themselves and their families. At a larger scale, they may take responsibility for the society or the country. Mr. Qichao Liang once said that a strong younger generation leads to a strong country. Courage is one key aspect of a strong younger generation.
最後, 我想要和我們家長分享下我在班上的感觸 - 沒有這次經歷我原先是沒有體會到的。同學們有如此的有紀律 ,積極參與 勇於發言 是和梅老師精心的培育分不開的。我在臺上40分鐘還可以, 但要四個小時我一定暈了。而老師每天每時都在做, 要是沒有如此的愛心, 奉獻,堅持和責任,是無法做到的。我們的老師本身就是勇氣的最好的榜樣。所以我們做父母要多理解和支持精心培育我們孩子的園丁。
Lastly, I would like share my thoughts about this activity with other parents – which I would not have known without being in the class. The discipline and proactive involvement by the students actually come from the teaching of Teacher Mei. I mentioned that I was fine to be there for 40 minutes but I would have issues handling the students for 4 hours. But the teacher is in the classroom all the time - it is impossible to do so without the teacher’s love, dedication, persistence, and responsibility. What the teacher has done is also one of the best examples of courage - the very caliber we would like our younger generation to have. Therefore, we need to have more understanding and support for those who nurture our next generation.
再次感謝大家給予的難忘的一次經歷。讓我們大家更多的參與到互動活動中。
