布魯諾·馬爾斯、菲利普·勞倫斯、阿里·萊文和克南進入錄音室，想要創作出一首能超越披頭四的歌曲，但是毫無成果的布魯諾將稿子全部扔進了垃圾桶，四個人開始在錄音室裡走過來走過去。他們感覺疲憊，不想工作。布魯諾感覺很煩躁，表示他不想做任何事情了（Today I don't feel like doing anything at all）。這句話敲開了大家的思緒，於是四人開始創作這首關於「懶漢」的歌曲。歌曲在洛杉磯的Larrabee錄音室和Levcon工作室兩個地方完成錄製。
