On December 12, it is reported that as of the end of November, direct economic losses caused by geological disasters dropped 48.9% compared with the same period last year in China. Since 2003, Ministry of Land and Resources (MLR) and China Meteorological Administration (CMA) have carried out meteorological warning and forecasting service for geological disasters and gained remarkable results.
During the past 11 months, there were 10,730 geological disasters happened in China, 412 of which were successfully forecasted. The forecasting avoided 33,581 casualties, and direct economic losses of 1.81 billion Yuan. Compared with last year, the direct economic losses dropped sharply. The number of geological disasters, and the death and missing were decreased by 30% and 40.2% respectively.
Since this year, MLR and CMA deepened cooperation in warning service system, linkage mechanism, and technology research, greatly enhancing the capability of geological disaster warning and forecasting.
As of December 12, the two sides jointly issued 143 times of national meteorological risk warning of geological disasters in this year. 30 provinces constructed meteorological warning system of geological disaster, covering all the geological disaster-prone areas. Through the establishment of information sharing platform, video discussion and other means, more than 40% provincial warning operations are able to share the monitoring data, service products, disaster data and service requirements. Meanwhile, the two sides jointly developed meteorological warning and forecasting technology of geological disaster, and constructed integrated geological disaster warning platform.
In the future, MLR and CMA will spread successful experience, carry out personnel training, and develop refined, personalized and professional products of warning and forecasting service. （Dec. 15）
