Despite the new tunnel, there are still a few people who rashly attempt to cross the Pass on foot.
During the summer months, the monastery is very busy, for it is visited by thousands of people who cross the Pass in cars. As there are so many people about, the dogs have to be kept in a special enclosure.
儘管修通了隧道，但仍有一些人想冒險徒步跨越聖伯納德山口。
夏天的幾個月裡，修道院十分忙碌，因為有成千上萬的人駕車通過山口，順道來修道院參觀。由於來人太多，狗被關在專門的圍欄裡。

（1）despite引導讓步狀語從句
Despite the new tunnel, there are still a few people who rashly attempt to cross the Pass on foot.
despite表示儘管、不顧。除了使用despite來引導讓步狀語從句外，還可以使用(in) despite of 或者 in spite of。
despite: 指不受某事或某種原因的阻礙，語氣輕於in spite of。
in spite of: 在這些詞中語氣最強，可與despite換用，口語或書面語中均可使用。
notwithstanding: 語氣最弱，僅表示一種障礙的存在。
He would go in spite of our warnings. 他不聽我們的勸告, 執意要去。
（2）during表示「在……期間」
During the summer months …
在表示在某時間區間時，可以使用for，in等，跟during是不一樣的。
①during和for的區別
during: 側重指習慣性的某一段時間，而for指特定的某一段時間；
during指繼續的時間概念，突出事件發生的時刻，而for側重事件持續時間的總長度。
②during和in的區別
during和in在多數情況下是可以混用，但在表示特定的，確切的某一個時間裡發生的動作時，通常用in。
They usually go on holiday in May. 他們通常5月去度假。
（3）as引導的原因狀語從句
As there are so many people about, the dogs have to be kept in a special enclosure.
昨天剛學習了now that，今天學習as，都能引出原因狀語從句。
