「Game of Thrones」 fans know that author George R.R. Martin has revealed at least the basic outline for his book series to the show’s producers David Benioff and Dan Weiss — and now he admits it’s entirely possible that viewers will reach the end of the 「Song of Ice and Fire」 story via the HBO series and not the novels.
When asked during a Spokane, Wash. science-fiction convention (via GeekWire) if the final episode of the series could air before the final book even comes out, Martin says, 「Anything is possible.」
「The show is moving forward like a locomotive, or sometimes a jet locomotive,」 Martin continues. 「There was a period where I was worried about that. Then I said, to hell with that.
「Worrying about it isn’t going to change it one way or another. I still sit down at the typewriter, and I have to write the next scene and the next sentence … I’m just going to tell my story, and they’re telling their story and adapting my books, and we shall see.」

Indeed, with the rate the show is going and the rate Martin is writing, it seems fairly likely that the series will far out-strip the source material. But fans needn’t worry too much about the stories diverging.
Martin previously spoke with Zap2it about the ways in which the TV series may differ from the novels, especially now that there are no further novels to use. He says that he expects the producers to stick to the big events at least.
「Major events [in the series and the novels] I think will be the same, but there will be a lot of minor events that are different,」 says Martin, which Benioff echoed at an Oxford Union book talk.
「[The series will] eventually, basically, meet up at pretty much the same place where George is going; there might be a few deviations along the route, but we’re heading towards the same destination,」 says Benioff. 「I kind of wish that there were some things we didn’t have to spoil, but we’re kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place. The show must go on … and that’s what we’re going to do.」
「Game of Thrones」 returns to HBO with Season 6 in spring 2016, while the sixth novel, 「Winds of Winter,」 is due out … eventually. 「Don’t ask me when the book is going to be done — I』ll ask my minions to lop your head off,」 quips Martin for the Spokane crowd.

馬丁之前說過，電視劇可能和小說不同，尤其是現在電視劇已經沒有小說做素材了。他說他希望製片人至少可以堅持還原重大事件。
馬丁說：「重大事件我想會一樣的，但小事件會有些不同。」貝尼奧夫也對此做出回應。
貝尼奧夫說：「最終，基本上和喬治的書大體相同。一些情節可能會有所偏差。但我們方向一致。我希望有些方面我們可以不用劇透，但我們有些左右為難。電視劇必須繼續……這些就是我們的打算。」
《權力的遊戲》將於2016年春季回歸第六季，而第六部小說《凜冬的寒風》最終出版時間是……馬丁開玩笑說：「別問我書什麼時候出——我會派小黃人把你們的頭砍下來。」
