Common App 與 CAAS申請系統,我該選誰?

　　近日，Common Application開放了2017年的申請系統，相較於往年6、7月清空前一年的申請帳號和數據，8月1日才開放，今年幾乎提前了三個月。而早在1月底的時候，Common App就公布了今年的個人陳述文書題目，和2015-2016年相同。而之前盛傳的新系統CAAS也將於本月底上線，並且已經公布2017年的申請文書。2017er們該究竟選擇哪個系統呢？

　　

　　Common Application (http://www.commonapp.org)，是一個美國高校以及國際名校通用的申請系統。這一年，CommonApp不僅在去年的基礎上讓外觀變得更自然、漂亮，還進行了一系列意義重大的改變。讓我們一起看看今年的新CommonApp申請網站和以往有什麼不同吧！

　　1. 提前開放，並且不清空去年的申請帳戶信息

　　通常，CommonApp會在6-7月間清空往年所有申請帳戶的信息，並把網站關閉一段時間，然後在8月1號重啟啟動。而今年新的CommonApp將不會關閉或清理舊帳戶，並提早開放了系統——目的是為了讓很多早申請的同學，提早著手申請流程，熟悉網申系統。對於一些想早申請（ED, EA, REA）和DIY的同學來說，這可以避免大家到後來因為時間緊迫而手忙腳亂。畢竟，精準、細緻、無缺漏地填寫CommonApp的各種表格，是一個技術含量大、耗時、耗力的任務。

　　2. 更多樣，更包容，更懂你－更多的「性別身份」選擇

　　

　　隨著社會變得越來越開放、包容和進步，CommonApp怎麼會落伍呢？在今年的CommonApp系統關於申請者性別的問題中，不但會區分提問生理性別和性別取向，還有個專門的文本欄（Text Box），給你足夠的空間來描述自己的性別傾向。

　　3. 更貼心的指導：Inaugural CollegeUp

　　

　　為了給打算申請大學的高中生們提供更好的指導，幫助他們更好地理解大學生活，CommonApp今年將與Baltimore City Public Schools和ZeeMee合作舉辦全美巡迴講座。具體的時間地點尚未確定，感興趣的小夥伴們可以隨後關注官方網站。

　　4. 更多名校加入Commonapp大軍

　　

　　在原來700多所成員院校的基礎上，今年將會有48個優秀的大學新加入Commonapp的龐大隊伍。這些新成員來自美國22個州，以及5個除美國之外的國家。其中有11個屬於美國公立學校，26個美國私立校，和11個國際學校。以下是部分新成員的名單：

　　說完了變化，有哪些地方沒變呢？

　　大家最關心的還是主文書Personal Essay的題目啦。那麼好消息是，文書題目還是和往年一樣的。五個文書自選題目如下：

　　1. Some students have a background, identity, interest, or talent that is so meaningful that they believe their application would be incomplete without it. If this sounds like you, please share that story.

　　2. The lessons we take from failure can be fundamental to later success. Recount an incident or time when you experienced failure. How did it affect you, and what did you learn from the experience?

　　3. Reflect on a time when you challenged a belief or idea. What prompted you to act? Would you make the same decision again?

　　4. Describe a problem you』ve solved or a problem you』d like to solve. It can be an intellectual challenge, a research query, an ethical dilemma-anything that is of personal importance, no matter the scale. Explain its significance to you and what steps you took or could be taken to identify a solution.

　　5. Discuss an accomplishment or event, formal or informal, that marked your transition from childhood to adulthood within your culture, community, or family.

　　新的申請平臺Coalition for Access, Affordabilty and Success，簡稱CAAS或者Coalition，終于于近日開放註冊，不過目前僅限於部分功能，系統也還不夠穩定，讓我們再來看看這個申請平臺到底是怎樣運作的吧。

　　▌註冊

　　首先Coalition官網地址是: http://www.mycoalition.org/，所有用戶，即學生、Counselor、Teacher等都是通過這是官網地址進行註冊，註冊完成後的登錄網址也是同一個。

　　

　　▌登陸

　　完成註冊之後首次登錄需要選擇身份，學生申請者就點擊STUDENT進入系統。

　　登錄系統之後首先進入到的是Home主頁，一共列出了四個版塊，分別是：

　　●Start your profile 開始編輯個人檔案

　　●Add to your locker 上傳文件到資料櫃

　　●Invite contacts 邀請聯繫人

　　●Build your college list 建立大學清單

　　

　　▌第一版塊

　　接下來我們看一下第一個版塊的內容，點擊Start your profile之後系統導向到Profile的部分，申請者要完成全部以下7項的信息內容來完成該版塊：

　　●Personal Information

　　●Contact Information

　　●High School Information

　　●Demographic Information

　　●Citizenship Information

　　●Disciplinary History

　　●Academic Interests(3 maximum)

　　●Family Information

　　

　　▌第二版塊

　　我們再來看一下第二個板塊Locker是如何操作的：

　　點擊Home的Add to your locker之後系統導向到Locker的部分，點擊Upload在跳出來的窗口中點擊Select files可以選擇本地的文件上傳到Locker，需要注意的是：

　　●Locker只能上傳文件,無法在線編輯已上傳文件

　　●上傳到Locker的文件可以分享給聯繫人,且這是它目前唯一的功能.音頻和視頻目前還無法分享

　　●上傳到Locker單個文件的大小不能超過50M，單次上傳不能多於20個文件，Locker可以上傳一般的文檔文件，例如doc, txt, pdf等，也可以上傳圖片、音頻和視頻

　　

　　

　　▌第三版塊

　　搞清楚第二個板塊Locker怎麼運作之後，我們來看下Coalition的Contacts功能有何特別之處：

　　● 可以對聯繫人進行分組

　　點擊Home的Invite Contacts之後在Contacts界面下可以輸入聯繫人的Email發送邀請的方式來添加聯繫人，並且在發送邀請的時候還會要求選擇聯繫人的身份，從Counselor/Registrar, Recommender, Parent/Guardian, Teacher, Friend這幾個類別中選擇聯繫人身份。

　　●站內信及分享功能

　　Coalition的聯繫人之間可以在系統內互發消息，同時註冊郵箱也會收到消息提醒，所有的聊天記錄都會被記錄在Coalition系統內，另外申請者上傳到Locker中的文件也可以分享給聯繫人查看。

　　

　　▌第四版塊

　　現在就剩下最後一個板塊，也就是College List部分，申請者可以自由添加大學清單，所列大學可以通過Add to list的向下角標選擇類別：Researching(調查中)，Interested(感興趣)，Planning to apply(計劃申請)。

　　*目前在College Search中可以檢索到的學校有76所，已在文末列出。

　　

　　▌Counselor界面

　　我們再來看看Counselor的界面，註冊完成之後以Support的身份進入系統：

　　

　　再進一步選擇具體身份：升學指導辦老師、教師、推薦人、父母監護人、其他等

　　

　　以升學指導辦老師身份進入的話會出現如下界面，包括Home(主頁)，Students(學生)、Documents(資料)、Organizations(學校或組織機構)。

　　*需要注意的是：

　　Students(學生)部分必須兩者建立起聯繫人關係才能在My Student Contacts部分列明；Documents(資料)部分目前還沒有開放，開放之後可以實現的功用有：

　　●填寫推薦信表格和提供推薦信；

　　●就文書和其他申請材料和學生進行互動；

　　●管理用戶可以上傳文件或者分配官方資料

　　●Organizations(學校或組織機構)部分是表明自己學校或者所在機構。

　　

　　在學生Coalition系統界面講解的過程中我們講到Locker中的資料可以分享給聯繫人，那麼分享給Counselor之後，在Counselor的系統內我們能看到右上角鈴鐺圖形會有紅色角標，點擊之後會看到My studnet contact界面下學生分享給Counselor的資料，效果如下圖：

　　

　　點擊Item(s) shared，Counselor就能看到該共享資料，但無法做在線編輯或者其他操作。

　　▌關於新系統

　　看完了Coalition系統操作之後，我們可以發現其實操作起來還是相當簡單的，各個板塊的內容也很清晰明了，新增的聯繫人之間信息交互的功能以及Locker中資料上傳和共享可以在某種程度上增加申請者和其他Supporter之間的互動溝通，其他的申請部分是否會變得更加簡單直接和高效目前因為還沒有完全開放功能所以還不明朗～

　　▌兩大系統17er們到底該選誰？

　　以上兩大系統在未來幾年競爭勢必會更加激烈，但是對於2017年的申請者們，保險起見，小編還是會建議大家優先使用用Common Application這個舊的申請系統，畢竟新的CAAS系統仍需測評，而且就目前所公布的系統功能來看，它是一個更加鼓勵提前規劃的學生使用的平臺。而且一般來說，17er和家長們暫時也不用擔心CAAS會對Common App系統今年產生十分大的衝擊，或對申請季有很大的影響，一個剛剛起步的平臺仍需要時間的檢驗。
