Today we are going to look at the Past Perfect Continuous tense from the English language. 今天我們來看看英語中的過去完成進行時。

We use the Past Perfect Continuous to show that something started in the past and continued until another time in the past.  We can use phrases such as, 「For10 minutes」 and 「For five weeks」.  These phrases are both time durations that can be used in the Present Perfect Continuous.

IMPORTANT!  This tense is related to the Present Perfect Continuous, but the duration of time stops before the interruption of a new action.

The 3 examples above all show actions using the Past Perfect Continuous that were continued for a certain amount of time in the past before being interrupted by a new action in the past.

So, next time you are using your English, remember to use the Past Perfect Continuous to express actions that were continued for a certain time in the past before they were interrupted by different actions in the past!
