CMA's Administrator attended WMO high-level satellite council

On June 21, Zheng Guoguang, Administrator of China Meteorological Administration (CMA) attended 12th high-level policy council on satellite matters of WMO. The meeting mainly focused on discussing the development of space climate monitoring system and socioeconomic performance assessment of meteorological satellites.


Zheng Guoguang pointed out meteorological satellites played important role in disasters prevention and mitigation and addressing to climate change. Their benefits for social and economic development are identified by the public and all national governments. The meteorological satellites have been the most important data source of weather forecast and numerical forecast If put them into climate monitoring, the stability and continuity, observing system seamless coverage, observing data comparability and consistency should be paid special attention.


During June 20-21, Zheng Guoguang also made series of meeting with Alan Thorpe,director of European Centre For Medium-range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF), Laura Furgione, America permanent delegate in WMO, Mark Paese, Acting Administrator of NOAA's Satellite and Information Service (NESDIS),Andi Eka Sakya, director of Badan Meteorologi, Klimatologi, dan Geofisika(BMKG) and President of  WMO RA V, and Laxman Signg RATHORE, director of  India Meteorological Department  to talk cooperation.
