今日主題句：他一直在往下看，這樣她就無法看到他的眼睛。
He looked down so that she should not see his eyes.
很多同學認識so，認識that，但放一起成so that，就不認識了。今天我們就來學習一個so that是什麼，又怎麼用。今天我們將分三個部分來講。分別是是so that的用法，so ... that的用法以及再者的判別。
（一）so that 和 so ... that 的用法以及判別方式
（1）so that 的用法
so that 當其引導目的狀語從句，表示「為了，以便」；當引導結果狀語從句裡，表示「以至於，使得，因此」的意思。
[例句]
Please run slowly so that we can catch you. 請跑慢點，以便我們能追上你。（目的從句）（馬拉松圈內流行語：跑得快沒朋友[偷笑]）
[例句]
All these problems are hard enough, so that he cannot solve all of them. 所有這些問題都夠難的，所以他不能全部解決。（結果從句）
so that引導結果狀語從句時，也可以使用with the result that代替。
[例句]
He worked hard, so that（或 with the result that）his work was finished in time. 他努力工作，所以工作按時完成。
（2）so ... that 的用法
so（或such）... that 引導結果從句表示「這麼……，以致」，記住使用so時，後面加形容詞、副詞或分詞，使用such時，後面接名詞就行了。
[例句]
The temperature in the room is so high that I cannot stay in it. 屋裡溫度太高了，以致於我不能待在裡面。（so後接形容詞）
[例句]
She is such a lovely person that we all like her. 他們是這樣的好學生以至於我們都喜歡他們。（such後接名詞性短語）
（3）so that 和 so ... that 的判別
① 無論用so that還是so ... that引導的目的或結果狀語從句，that在從句中不能作賓語或主語，這裡有別於that作先行詞引導的定語從句。（特別注意）
[例句]
This is the book that I bought yesterday. 這是我昨天買的那本書。（定語從句，that作賓語）
[例句]
Oxygen is so important to life that we cannot live without it. 氧氣對生命很重要，以致於沒有它，我們就活不了。（so ... that引導結果從句，that在從句中不佔成分）
② 一般來說，so和that分開的複合句，that引出的結果狀語從句居多。
③ so that引出的從句內有情態動詞，則多數是目的狀語從句。
（二）課後練習
（1）她努力地工作著，為的是一切能夠及時就序。
She worked hard so that everything would be ready in time.
（2）他身體虛弱得幾乎站不起來了。
He was so weak that he could hardly stand up.
（3）一切都發生得這麼快，我都來不及去思考。
Everything happened so quickly I hadn’t time to think.
