相信大部分同學對於more than句型感到熟悉而陌生。因為more than有我們非常熟悉的「多於，大於，超過」之意。但more than的語意不止如此，而且有很多變式,所以遇到實際問題時就分不清楚了。
more than 基本用法
more than與數詞連用，意思是「多於，大於，超過」。相當於over.例如：
I』ve known him for more than 20 years. 我認識他已經二十多年了。
2. morethan後面跟名詞，意為「不只是，不僅僅是」。例如： She is more than a teacher to us, she is our friend. 他不只是教師，她還是我們的朋友。
3. morethan與形容詞和分詞連用，表示「非常、十分」。例如：
She is morethanbeautiful. 她非常漂亮 。4. morethan與動詞連用，對動詞起著加強語氣的作用。例如： His progress morethan encouraged him to work hard. 進步激勵他努力學習。

對於more than的含義學習，我們可以這樣處理:more和than切分，more與前面相關詞一起理解，than和後面成分一起分析，翻譯順序也要調整。
如： more than 20 years.可以切分為： more 和than 20 years兩部分，先翻譯than 20 years，再翻譯more，自然會有「多於，大於，超過」之意。
再如：more than a teacher .可以切分為： more 和than a teacher兩部分，先翻譯than a teacher，再翻譯more，梳理後也會有「不只是，不僅僅是」之意。
還有：more than beautiful.用 than beautiful先譯，再譯more。是不是產生與「非常漂亮 」的關聯。

「nomorethan」=only, 言其少，譯作「不過，只有，僅僅」；「notmorethan」=at most， 可譯為「不超過，至多」。例如： He has nomorethan $10. 他只有十美元。 Tom is not morethan 5 years old. 他至多5歲。 理解記憶時，只需要把no，這個形容詞翻譯為：沒有，而not作為副詞譯為「不」，理解起來就容易多了。no more…than與not more…than （高中不考查）no more ... than」是「 不 …… 也不 」 的意思。「not more ... than」是「 不像 …… 一樣，不如 …… 一樣 」的意思 。分析方法同上。
