嗨 大家好 歡迎回到 「來問艾莉莎」

Hi everybody welcome back to ask Alisha,

我們的周更系列 在這個節目裡你們問我問題 我來回答

The weekly series where you ask me and I answer them.

也許答得上來吧 本周第一個問題來自納魯

Maybe. First question this week comes from Naru.

嗨 納魯 納魯說 你好艾莉莎

Hi Naru. Naru says hi Alisha,

it 和 that之間的區別是什麼?

what's the difference between it and that?

例如 我每天早上做瑜伽

For example I do yoga every morning.

我也做它或者說我也做那個

I do it too or I do that too.

我們用it來代替在之前的對話中提到的名詞

We use it to replace a noun that we mentioned earlier in the conversation.

例如 我買了一個新電腦 它酷極了

So like for example I bought a new computer. It's really cool.

或者是我組裝了一個新電腦 這太難了

Or I built a new computer. It was really hard.

所以 那個「it」 指的是組裝電腦的過程

So that "it" refers to like the process of building a computer.

或者在第一個句子中指的是我買的那臺電腦

Or refers to like the computer I bought in the first sentence.

所以我們用"it"來指代那個東西

So we use it to replace that thing,

那個物品 那個具體的過程

that object, that specific process.

然而 當我們使用「that」的時候

When we use that however.

沒錯 我們是在說在先前的對話中提到的事情

Yes. We are talking about  something we refer to earlier in the conversation.

但是我們用它來指代一些說話者和聽話者都知道的事

But we are using it for something that the speaker and the listener shared.

它是一個共享的(都知道的)經歷

It's a shared experience.

所以如果你用「that」來談論一個經歷

So if you use that to talk about an experience

而你的聽眾對此事並不知情

that you did not share with you listener.

那聽上去會很奇怪

It's gonna sound really weird.

所以在你的例子中 我每天早上做瑜伽

So in your example like I do yoga every morning.

然後有人說 噢 我也做那個

And someone said, oh, I do that too.

這是合理的

It makes sense.

因為在那種情況下 對話雙方

Because both speakers in that situation

都有在早上做瑜伽的經歷

have the experience of doing yoga in the morning.

如果你說 噢 我也做它

If you say, oh, I do it too.

這也沒錯

It's like not wrong,

但它聽上去沒有that那麼自然

but it does sound less natural than using that.

所以如果你們在一個有共享經歷的情形下時

So when you have a shared experience of a situation,

你就能用「that」

you can use "that".

我希望這能幫到你

I hope that helps you.

謝謝你有趣的問題

Thanks for your interesting question.

好了 我們進入下一個問題

Okay, let's get on to your next question.

下一個問題來自阿蒂 你好阿蒂

Next question comes from Artie. Hi, Artie.

阿蒂說 你好艾莉莎 你們如何禮貌地詢問他人的健康狀況呢?

Artie says, hi Alisha, how do you politely ask someone about their health condition?

一般會用"sick"這個單詞嗎?因為「sick」也有「瘋了」的意思

Is it common to use "are you sick" since "sick" can mean "crazy" or "insane"?

好問題

Yeah, good question.

事實上 這麼說是完全可以的

And actually it's totally fine to ask "are you sick".

完全可以

That's totally fine.

這取決於你的語調

It depends on your intonation.

所以如果你說「你病了嗎?」

So if you say 「are you sick」?

而且你還帶著關心的表情和聲調

And you have this like concern look, and you have this concern voice,

那就不會產生交流問題

there is not gonna be a communication problem.

如果你看過一部電影 裡面的角色像這樣說話

If you've seen a movie where characters like

「你瘋了嗎?」"Are you SICK?"

這種情境談論的是有心理健康問題的人

That's situation where it's talking about the persons like mental health like

「你瘋了嗎?」

「Are you crazy,are you insane?」

這種情況下 他們的表情震驚又驚恐

when they use that shocked horrified face like

「你瘋了嗎?你想用芥末醬填滿那些甜甜圈?」

"Are you SICK?","Do you want to fill all those doughnuts with mustard?"

這種情況下"sick"這個詞指的是

That's a situation where you will say "are you sick?" and it means

「瘋狂的,不理智的」

"crazy" or "insane".

如果你願意的話 還有一些其他的問法

Other ways you could ask would you like

你還好嗎?

Are you OK?

你感覺還好嗎?

Are you feeling OK?

你感冒了嗎?

Do you have a cold?

像這樣的一些問法都可以

That kind of thing.

感謝提問

Thanks very much for the question.

下一個問題

Let's go to your next question.

下一個問題來自伊斯邁爾 你好伊斯邁爾

Next question comes from Easmile. Hi, Easmile.

伊斯邁爾說 你好艾莉莎 感謝你的幫助

Easmile says, hi Alisha, thanks for your support.

「may」 和"might"之間有何不同?

What's the difference between may and might?

實話說 沒什麼不同

There isn't really a difference honestly.

「may」 和 "might"用在同樣的語境當中

當你討論可能性的時候

when you are talking about possibility.

然而 在美式英語中 "might"更常見

In American English, however, might is more common than may.

舉些例子

Some examples.

我可能忘記了我的錢包

I might have forgotten my wallet!

我可能忘記了我的錢包

I may have forgotten my wallet!

一樣的

Those are the same.

但是"may"聽起來更正式

But "may" sounds a bit more formal.

美式英語中我們更傾向於使用「might」

In American English we tend to use "might".

所以這個問題實際上很好地連接了

So this question actually connects nicely

另一個觀眾的問題

with a question from another viewer

這個問題來自艾倫·陳 你好 艾倫

This comes from Allen Chan. And hi Allen.

艾倫問道 你好 艾莉莎 我該怎麼用 may be, might 和 probably呢?

Allen asked hi Alisha, how do I use may be, might, and probably?

好吧 我們討論如何運用may和might

Okay, so we talked about how we use may and might

和我們討論可能性的方式相同

in the same way to talk about possibility.

那麼現在讓我們把may和be放在一起討論

So now let's talk about may and be together.

不是maybe(可能)而是may be(可能是)

Not maybe but may be.

我們也會談到might(可能)以及probably(大概)

And might and probably.

那麼讓我們來比較一下這些單詞吧

So let's compare these.

我們會用may be

We use may and be,

當我們想要談論一個可能是其他東西的物品的時候

when we want to talk about something that could possibly be something else.

這聽上去很泛泛而談

That sounds very open.

我們來看看例句

So let's look at some examples.

嗯 這可能是他推薦的那家餐廳

Hmmm, this may be the restaurant he recommended.

他可能是這個工作的合適人選

He may be the right person for the job.

這種形式可以用may be 和might be

So this is the pattern we can use for may be and might be.

我想進一步談談probably.

So I want to continue onto probably.

所以如果我們想像may 和 might 表達的是

So if we imagine may and might express this sort of like

一種不確定性 可能在一個從零到一百的範圍內

uncertainty maybe on a scale of from like zero to a hundred.

may 和 might大概是40左右

May and might just maybe like forty percent or so?

probably的肯定性要高得多

Probably has a much higher-level certainty

大概有70或者80那麼高

like seventy percent or eighty percent or so.

所以對於未來要發生什麼我們非常清楚

So we have a pretty good idea of what's going to happen in the future

但還是有擺動空間的

but there is a little bit of like wiggle room

我們仍然不能百分之百確定

like we are still not one hundred percent sure.

舉些例子

Some examples

明天我大概會晚些睡

I'm probably gonna sleep late tomorrow.

她今晚大概不會回復了

She's probably not gonna reply tonight.

所以用probably表明說話者有比較大的把握性

So probably shows the speaker has higher level of certainty.

那麼我希望這些能幫你學會使用may 和 might

So I hope that this helps you use may and might

還有may be和might be 以及probably 當然還有maybe

and may be and might be and probably and maybe also too.

很感謝提出這兩個問題

Thanks very much for these two questions.

棒極啦!我們來看下一個問題

Great! Let's move on to your next question.

下一個問題來自Lombardozi Marco

Next question comes from Lombardozi Marco.

你好啊

Hi Lombardozi.

他說

Lombardozi says.

你能用一些例句說明all和whole的區別嗎?

Can you explain the difference between all and whole with some examples?

當然啦

Sure.

讓我們從看一些例句開始

Let's begin by looking at some example sentences.

我的狗狗吃完了所有的紙杯蛋糕

My dog ate all the cupcakes.

我的狗狗吃完了整個蛋糕

My dog ate the whole cake.

我的室友偷走了所有的蘋果充電器

My roommate stole all the iPhone chargers!

我室友偷走了我的整個電路盒

My roommate stole my whole electronics box!

在用all的句子中你可以看到

You can see in the sentences that use all

他們看到的事物都是獨立的個體

there were looking at individual unites of something.

在第一個有狗狗的例句中

In the first example sentence with the dog

狗狗吃了所有的蛋糕 所有的紙杯蛋糕

The dog ate all the cakes, all the cupcakes.

所以在這些句子裡我們談論的是獨立的個體

So we are talking about individual units there.

在第二種情形下

In the second situation,

室友偷走了所有的蘋果充電器

the roommate stole all the iPhone chargers

所以我們看到的是獨立的單元 一個東西

so we are looking at individual units, one thing.

但是是那些個別東西的全部

But all of those one things.

所以當我們想要強調這個單元的時候

So when we want to emphasize the unit,

我們用all

we use all.

all加上這個東西

All plus the unit.

我們還注意到這個單元要用複數形式

We also notice that the units use the plural form.

我們用這個名詞的複數形式

We use the plural form of the noun.

所以在狗狗的例句中我們用了cupcakes(複數形式)

So in the dog situation it's cupcakes.

而在室友的例子中 用的是chargers(複數)

In the roommate situation, it's iPhone chargers.

我們用的是複數形式

We are using the plural form.

然而 當我們用whole時

However, when we use whole,

我們說的是一個能被拆分成部分的一個東西

We are talking about something that can be broken down into units.

所以在狗狗的例句中

So in the dog situation,

是個蛋糕 一個完整的蛋糕

it's a cake, so one cake,

可以分成許多小塊

can be like many smaller pieces of cake.

在第二個例句中

In the second example sentence,

它是一盒電子設備 一些與電子相關的物品

it's about like a box of electronic equipment like electronic related things.

那麼它不是在盒子裡的一些東西

So it's not the things inside the box,

而是整個盒子

it's the complete box.

所以我們就想像這是一個完整的單元

So we imagine that this is like one complete unit,

一套完整的東西

one complete set of something.

所以我們用all

So we use all

就像我像前面說過的 當我們想要強調

like I said when we want to emphasize

單元 一些東西

like the units, the small pieces of some things.

所以會說 我的所有紙杯蛋糕或者所有我的蘋果充電器

So like all of my cupcakes or all of my iPhone chargers.

我們強調那些單元個體

We are emphasizing the unit there

用whole來指稱

using whole to like refer to

一個由許多較小單元組成的較大的事物

a larger thing that's composed of many smaller units.

強調你震驚或驚訝的程度

Really emphasizes like your level of shock or your level of surprise.

對於那個東西受到了影響

that thing was affected.

當你在閱讀的過程中有所注意時

So as you pay attention in your reading,

我認為閱讀能幫你找到更多例子

I think reading will help you to find some more examples of these.

只要看看是哪種類型的單元

Just looking see like the kinds of units

以及一些典型的比較大的名詞

and the typical kinds like emmm larger nouns

像一些能整體對待的東西 例如食物就是很好的例子

like get this whole treatment, so like foods are great examples.

例如一整張匹薩 一整個蛋糕 一整隻火雞或一整隻雞

Like a whole pizza or a whole cake or a whole turkey or a whole chicken.

那就指的是一個由許多部分組成的一個東西

So that refers to one thing composed of many parts.

我希望這能幫到你

So I hope that this helps you.

感謝提問

Thanks very much for the question.

我們來看下一個問題

Let's go on to your next question.

下一個問題來自田賦 你好啊 田

Your next question is from Tian Fu. Hi, Tian.

田問道 你能解釋一下「更高級一點」這個句子嗎?

Tian says can you explain "a bit more sophisticated"?

沒有語境的話 我不能完全確定這個句子的意思

Without context I can't be sure what exactly this means.

但是我認為這是一個表示比較的短語

But I think that this is a comparative phrase.

那麼我們先來造一個完整的句子

So let's make a complete sentence to start.

A餐廳比B餐廳要更加高級一些

Restaurant A is a bit more sophisticated than Restaurant B.

So a bit more means like a little more.

那麼某物比另外一個物品更加怎麼一點點

Then something else a little more or a small amount more than something else.

Sophisticated是指更加精良或者有更多的

Sophisticated means like refined or maybe they have lots of

文化 許多的知識 如果你在討論的是人的話

culture, a lot of knowledge if you are talking about a person.

In this case with the restaurant, maybe it's well-rounded

所以可能是這家餐廳有很多經營經驗

so there is like lots of kind of experience that was used to make this restaurant.

例如這家餐廳的經營者有很多處世經驗

Like the restaurant decorator had lots of worldly experience,

那麼他們的菜單就有許多不同的世界風味 我也不清楚

so the menu has a lot like different world flavors, I don't know.

所以如果某物是高級的\N{\fs30\c&H000000&\fn微軟雅黑\b1}So it's something that is sophisticated

它就給人一種高級別的印象

it has like a high-class image.

所以如果你用了更高級一點

So if you use a bit more sophisticated

那就是說物品A比物品B處在一個更加高的精良程度上

it means item A is a higher level of sophistication than item B.

在這個餐廳的例子中

In this case of restaurant.

我希望這能幫助你理解這個短語

So I hope that this helps with your understanding of the phrase a bit more sophisticated.
