今日文章解讀：
She was wearing a full-length skirt which swept the ground. Despite her great age, she was very graceful indeed, but, so far, the archaeologists have been unable to discover her identity.
她身穿一條拖地長裙，儘管上了年紀，但體態確實優美。不過，考古工作者至今未能確定這位女神的身份。
（1）過去進行時的用法
She was wearing a full-length skirt …在這個句子中，使用的就是過去進行時的用法。
首先我們來看一下進行時。
①現在進行時結構
主語+am/is/are+現在分詞
比如：
She is singing.她正在唱歌。
They are reading English.他們正在讀英語。
這裡需要注意的是be going to的用法。表面看雖然也是be動詞+現在分詞，但其實表示的是意思是將來時。比如：
It is going to rain. 要下雨了。
②過去進行時的用法
知道現在進行時之後，改寫為過去進行時的方法就是將am/is/are換成過去式的was/were即可。
主語+was/were+現在分詞
比如：
Cinderella was wearing a beautiful dress and a pair of fine crystal shoes. 灰姑娘穿著一件漂亮的裙子和一雙精緻的水晶鞋。
在這樣的描寫方法中，大家可以試著對比一下過去時的手法。
Cinderella wore a beautiful dress and a pair of fine crystal shoes at that time. 當時灰姑娘穿著一件漂亮的裙子和一雙精緻的水晶鞋。
可以看出，當使用過去進行時的時候，要比過去時更有畫面感。所以這也是在文學作品中經常使用的寫作手法。這下同學們會仿寫了嗎？
（2）unable，enable，disable的區別
the archaeologists have been unable to discover her identity.這裡是說考古工作家們未能確定這位女神的身份，
之前在詞根詞綴中有介紹過前綴un，in，im，dis都有否定的含意。所以今天的unable和disable在詞義上是相近的，均表示「不能」。但其在詞性上略有不同。
Unable是形容詞，表示「不能的」「不會的」
Disable是動詞，表示「使失去能力」「使無資格」
而enable則剛好與disable構成一對反義詞，動詞，表示「使能夠」
因為詞性的不同，所以unable與disable不同互換。
The fishermen were my old friends, but they were unable to recognize me. 那些漁夫是我的老朋友，但他們卻不能認出我了。
They were disabled by age or sickness. 他們因年老或疾病而失去了工作的能力。

（3）discover與invent的區別
①從詞義上區分：discover表示「發現」，invent表示「發明」。發現是指已經存在的東西，重新找到它。發明是指沒有的東西，發明出來。
②從詞根與詞綴上來區分。Discover由前綴dis-和詞根cover組成。Cover表示覆蓋，dis前面剛介紹過disable，放在這個單詞裡，表示「不讓cover」，本來東西被蓋著藏起來，現在揭露出來了，就是「發現」。
