Moisture descends out of the blue, suffusing the void
to become a month-long stretch of rain
a brutally tender attachment only our joints can know
A bird leads a convoy of sunlight
calmly perches on the backyard fence
its expressionless eyes as profound as the sea
I'm uncertain where I've seen its plumage before
neither blue nor grey, almost a shadowy color
offensively conspicuous against the fence's scarlet background
of spring when every blossom is in full bloom
on a nearly perfect heavenly afternoon
it flew away, leaving behind, as though just bathed,
a clear blue sky
