Spirited Away: Japanese anime trounces Toy Story 4 at China box office
spirit away這個短語表示偷偷帶走;讓人不可思議地弄走:to take sb / sth away in a quick, secret or mysterious way,舉個例子:
After the concert, the band was spirited away before their fans could get near them.
Spirit away
Janpanese anime
If you trounce someone in a competition or contest, you defeat them easily or by a large score.
Brazil trounced Italy 5–1 in the final.
這裡的trump可不是指川普,而是用作了動詞,表示贏,勝過,打敗:to do better than someone else in a situation when people are competing with each other,比如
•By wearing a simple but stunning dress, she had trumped them all.
Japanese animation Spirited Away has dominated the Chinese box office over its opening weekend, making more than twice as much as Disney's Toy Story 4.
The Studio Ghibli film grossed $27.7m (£21.8m), according to Maoyan, China's largest movie ticketing app. Spirited Away was officially released in 2001, but only now, 18 years later, has it been released in China. However, many Chinese viewers grew up with the film, having watched DVDs or pirated downloads.
•The movie has already grossed over $10 million.
I only pull in 15,000 a year as a social worker.
Imports totalled $1.5 billion last year.
The film, which raked in a record $200m in its opening weekend on a budget of just $15m, is based on the true story of Lu Yong. Mr Lu was arrested in 2013 for peddling knock-off cancer drugs imported illegally from India.
Spirited Away is one of Studio Ghibli's most popular, breath-taking masterpieces which follows a young girl entering a magic world in order to save her parents who have been changed into pigs. The film spotlights Chihiro as she works in a mystical bath house and encounters magical beings in the forms of witches and ethereal giants, to name a few.
breath-taking激動人心的; 驚人的; 令人驚嘆的:very impressive, exciting, or surprising,比如:
•The view from my bedroom window was absolutely breathtaking.
The movie gained a cult following after it was released and still remains Studio Ghibli's highest grossing movie of all time. It also became the first non-English language animated film to win an Academy Award.
On top of the Oscar win, the movie itself was the highest grossing movie in Japan's history, pulling in $275 million USD in that country alone. The film broke box office records and won rave reviews on its initial release in Japan in 2001.
