Scooby-Doo is one of America’s most iconic cartoon characters. The cartoon Great Dane, created in 1969 by American writers Joe Ruby and Ken Spears, is always craving Scooby snacks, hanging around four pesky teenagers, and getting scared. Each episode of the animated series bearing his name begins the same. The characters encounter a phantom or supernatural creature and the rest of the episode follows the group of young detectives as they investigate. Scooby –Doo continues to be a successful franchise with spin off cartoon series and motion pictures. The series has also influenced the style and format of many cartoons from the 1970’s to today.
