香港設計師協會(HKDA)於1972年成立，是首個同類型由香港執業設計師和設計管理人員合組的協會，旨在提升設計從業員的地位，並推動社會各界善用和鑑賞優質設計。
自1975年創辦第一屆比賽以來，「香港設計師協會獎」逐漸成為亞太區其中一個最具規模的跨設計界別比賽。為支持設計工業的蓬勃發展及表揚全球各國的卓越設計，更於2011年首次接受亞太區以外其他國家的參賽作品，從而邁向國際化，並正式更名為「香港設計師協會環球設計大獎」(HKDA GDA)。
本屆環球設計大獎經過來自14個國家評審團的嚴格審查後，共評出510個獲獎作品，含12個金獎，6個香港最佳獎。頒獎典禮於27日在香港舉行。
《香港設計師協會環球設計大獎雙年鑑》是環球設計大獎的年度總結，展示了全球傑出的設計人才，一連串的作品亦反映了這個亞太地區的跨設計界別比賽，如何保持其優秀水平。在過去的42年，《香港設計師協會環球設計大獎雙年鑑》發行至多個國際城市，為各機構、設計工作室和設計愛好者提供了全球設計趨勢的參考指標。
