2018 Toastmaster國際英語演講比賽，來自中國的Sherrie Su獲亞軍！她以turn one's back on英文雙關，講述自己的經歷故事。她的演講自信大方幽默風趣，穿插笑料讓臺下觀眾掌聲連連！華麗轉身，找到屬於自己的那束光。

當蘇子芳還是個7歲的小女孩時，讓她害怕的人只有兩個——自己的爸爸媽媽。父母常年不和，經常動不動就爭吵甚至是打架，有一次媽媽甚至因為吵架而離家出走兩個月。

不幸的童年給蘇子芳帶來了很多陰影——當她讀完大學，開始離開家鄉到大城市裡獨自生活時，複雜的人際關係更是讓內心受傷的她感到十分恐懼。

後來，她唯一的朋友Lily邀請她加入了頭馬俱樂部。在俱樂部，與她作伴的第一為成員是一個叫Jim的年輕小夥。蘇子芳回憶起當時的情景，別人眼中浪漫的相遇橋段，在她當時看來「就像是恐怖片上演了一樣」

在隨後的共同學習中，Jim和蘇子芳暗生情愫。但當面對Jim的主動表白時，自卑、恐懼的心理再次湧上心頭，她害怕自己像她的父親母親那樣，把控不好婚姻的關係。

但在Jim的鼓勵下，蘇子芳終於能勇敢地轉過身來面對自己深愛的人

Jim和蘇子芳最終也一起步入了婚姻的殿堂。在俱樂部所學的知識讓夫妻倆始終能進行有效的溝通。她甚至打趣道：「我們每次的溝通都會持續5到7分鐘。」除此之外，他們倆還雙雙成為了蘇子芳父母的「婚姻顧問」。

Our life is like this stage.

It is bright, but sometimes it's scary.

非常明亮，有時卻很嚇人

It's easy to turn your back on your fear, but it's hard to turn around.

逃避你的恐懼很簡單，但轉身面對它卻很難

I'm a little scared right now.

我現在內心有點害怕

Have you ever turned your back on someone or something because you are scared?

你們是否曾因恐懼而逃避過某個人或者某件事呢？

When I was seven, I was only afraid of two people—my mom and dad.

當我只有7歲時，讓我害怕的人只有兩個：我的爸爸媽媽

One night, we were having noodles for dinner.

一天晚上，我們在晚餐上吃麵條

I could feel the soft light in the dining room, smell the tomato sauce, and hear my mom's voice.

我能感覺到餐廳裡柔和的燈光，聞到番茄醬的味道，聽到媽媽對我說

「Sherrie, put all the top sticks on the table.」

「子芳，把筷子在桌上擺好吧」

「Yes,」 and 「Yum!"

我說「好的」，「真香！」

"Mom, dad—let’s eat!"

媽媽，爸爸，我們一起吃吧！

I was eating, my parents were talking, but suddenly, 「What's wrong with you?」

我當時正在吃飯，爸爸媽媽在談話，我突然聽到一句「你有病啊？」

My mom stood up.

媽媽站了起來

My dad's eyes grew wide.

爸爸怒目圓睜

"Don't do this in front the kid."

「別在孩子面前吵架」

I heard some bad words I didn't know the meaning of and some bad words I wish I didn't know the meaning of

我聽到了很多髒話，有些聽懂了，還有些我希望自己沒聽懂

All of a sudden, my mom knocked all the bowls and plates on the floor.

突然，媽媽將所有的碗碟都摔在了地上

Red tomato sauce splashed all over the wall.

紅色的番茄醬濺滿了一面牆

「Mom, dad, stop fighting, please.

「媽媽，爸爸，別打了，求求你們

I’m scared.」

我好害怕」

My mom looked at me.

媽媽看著我，說：

「Sherrie, I'm leaving.

「子芳，我要離開這裡了

Who do you want to live with—mom or dad?

你想跟誰一起生活呢，媽媽還是爸爸？

Pick one.」

選一個吧」

Can you imagine how I felt?

你們能想像我當時的感覺嗎？

Pick one?

I turned around and ran to my room.

我轉身跑向自己的房間

I heard my mom slam the door and left.

我聽到媽媽砰的一聲關上了門，然後走了

My dad came into my room and sat next to me.

爸爸走進我的房間，坐在我身邊

「Baby, I know it's hard, but I have to ask you a serious question.

「寶貝，我知道這樣很難選，但我想問你一個嚴肅的問題

Do you know how to clean off the tomato sauce on the wall?」

你知道怎樣才能清理牆上的番茄醬嗎？」

Two months later, my mom came back!

兩個月後，媽媽回來了！

A home, sweet home became a battlefield again.

一個家，甜蜜的家又變成了戰場

And that war continued for 15 years.

而這場戰爭一直持續了15年

After college, I escaped to live in a big city alone.

大學畢業後，我逃離了家，獨自住在大城市裡

People and relationships—they're scary, but when I turn my back on them

我開始面對複雜的人際關係——他們非常可怕，但每當我轉身逃避時

My dark lonely shadow scared me even more.

黑暗、孤單的陰霾讓我更加害怕

I was miserable and my only friend, Lily, told me,

「Sherrie, come with me to Toastmasters.」

「子芳，我們一起去參加頭馬俱樂部吧」

So I went to Toastmasters.

於是我來到了頭馬俱樂部

Such a scary place!

好嚇人的地方啊！

So many people clap their hands for no reason!

好多人都在無端端地鼓掌！

A guy named Jim approached me.

一個叫Jim的人走向我

His little eyes were sparkling.

他的小眼睛在閃爍

「Sherrie, if you want to know more about Toastmasters, you and I can have dinner together.」

子芳，如果你想了解頭馬俱樂部的更多信息，可以跟我一起吃頓晚飯

Is he asking me out? it's like a movie!

他是在約我吃飯嗎？簡直就像電影裡的情節！

A horror movie!

一部恐怖片！

But the more I got to know about Jim, the more I thought he's cute, funny, and warm-hearted.

但隨著我越了解Jim，我就越覺得他可愛，有趣，熱心

But then I heard a little voice.

但後來我聽到了內心的掙扎

「You can handle relationship?」

「你真的能維持這段關係嗎？」

「You're gunna hurt him and yourself!」

「你只會傷了他和自己的心！」

I turn my back on Jim.

我轉過身來

「Let's just be friends!」

「我們還是做普通朋友吧！」

「Sherrie, why?」

「為什麼呢，子芳？」

「I don't want to ask my child one day, 『Mom or dad—pick one.』」

「我不想有朝一日問我的孩子 『你想選爸爸還是媽媽』」

「Sherrie, we are not your parents.

「子芳，我們不像你的父母

We are competent communicators.

我們是有能力的溝通者

What scares you now may bring you the most beautiful thing.

曾經讓你害怕的事情，現在可以為你帶來美好的東西

Give it a chance and turn around.」

Jim held my arms and turn me around.

Jim抓著我的手臂，把我轉過身來

I look at him in the eye.

我望著他的眼睛

Wow!

哇！

It's not that scary anymore.

終於沒有那麼害怕了

Jim turn my world around and now we are happily married!

Jim改變了我的世界，如今我們已經幸福地結婚了！

All of our conversations are five-to-seven minutes long.

I'm not, I'm not even afraid of my parents anymore.

Jim and I became their marriage consultants.

I am scared now, but I wouldn't want to miss all your beautiful smiley faces.

1.Toastmaster

全稱「Toastmaster International」，Toast 是「舉杯祝賀」，Master 是「主人」，所以可將 Toastmaster 解釋為『會議主持人』。 Toastmasters International 自1924 年於美國加州成立，為一個非營利事業組織，於全球 136多個國家擁有超過1.6萬個會員組織。其成立的原因是基於幫助他人如何演講、傾聽與思考，培養學員領導、表達能力的國際性組織。
