It is said that there are many netizens who are enthusiastic to help actor John Chiang Tai-wai educate his "mean" younger brother Derek Yee Tung-shing.

聽說，有很多熱心的網友，要幫姜大衛好好教育「不靠譜」的弟弟爾冬陞。

The origin of the matter is a bit ridiculous. It arose from Yee's previous comments, which have received more attention recently due to the filmmaker's great popularity in the hit variety show Everyone Stand By 2.

事情的緣起頗為無釐頭。因最近在綜藝節目《演員請就位2》中太火，爾冬陞被翻出昔日的一段言論。

In an earlier interview, Yee revealed he was surprised to see singer Jay Chou for the first time, as he felt Chou and his elder brother Chiang were too alike, whether in appearance or temperament. Weirdly, Yee even suspected Chou was his brother's illegitimate son.

爾導竟曾談及：當年第一次看見周杰倫時，感覺周董和自己的哥哥姜大衛無論是模樣還是氣質都太像了，甚至懷疑周杰倫是哥哥的私生子。

In the wake of the online buzz, Chiang teasingly replied in response to questions by Hong Kong journalists that he would retire if it was true (hinting that Chou is much more commercially successful than him).

這缽陳年老醋發酵後，姜大衛也被逼應答港媒，戲言要是真的就好了，自己就可以退休了。

Despite all the nonsense, this reminded me of the golden era of Hong Kong martial arts films.

這事兒搞笑歸搞笑，倒是讓我想起來香港武俠片的黃金時代。

Working in the Hong Kong showbiz industry for around half a century, Chiang has been a prolific star. Born in Shanghai in 1947, he moved with the family to Hong Kong at the age of 3 and made his acting debut just one year later. In 1968, Chiang's talent was recognized by prestigious director Cheh Chang, and a path to stardom with Shaw Brothers studio blockbusters ensued. In a career spanning more than 50 years, Chiang has been involved in nearly 200 movies and TV dramas as either an actor or director, or both.

在香港影視圈縱橫了半個世紀，姜大衛是個高產的明星。他1947年出生於上海，3歲時隨家人移居香港，4歲當童星開始演藝生涯，1968年被大導演張徹發掘，籤約邵氏公司。此後五十多年，姜大衛出演和導演影視劇將近200部。

From portraying swordsman Lei Li in the movie New One-Armed Swordsmanto starring as martial arts master Huang Yaoshi in the TV seriesJiuyin Zhenjing(The Manual of Nine Yin), Chiang has established himself as an iconic star in Chinesewuxia films. Most of his early movies contributed to the prosperity of martial arts films in Hong Kong in the late 1960s and the 1970s.

從《新獨臂刀》裡的雷力到《九陰真經》裡的黃藥師，姜大衛把自己活成了武俠片裡的標誌性符號。他早年的電影作品，也成就了香港武俠片在六七十年代的風起雲湧。

For this weekend, China Daily has selected some of his must-see classics, which were bolstered the heyday of Hong Kong cinema.

本期周末電影遴選了姜大衛早年的幾部經典作品，願諸君在光影之間，回顧老電影的好時光。

The Wandering Swordsman《遊俠兒》

(1970）

With Ni Kuang — then one of the four most acclaimed writers in Hong Kong — as the scriptwriter, the film marks Chiang's debut as a lead actor after his talent was recognized by director Chang. Described by some American critics as a Robin Hood-style story, the movie casts Chiang as a cheeky rogue who steals from the rich to give to the poor and gets wrapped up in a plotting villain's heist to rob a convoy full of precious jewels.

姜大衛獲張徹賞識後，所主演的第一部影片，由當時被譽稱「香港四大才子」之一的倪匡編劇。在這個被美國影評人稱為「俠盜羅賓漢」式的故事裡，姜大衛扮演劫富濟貧的「遊俠兒」，卻被壞人設計陷害，誤劫了一批珍寶。

Chiang was 23 years old when shooting the film. His personal temperament matches the role well. With his charismatic grin and a complex range of expressions and with a shrewdness and sincerity in his eyes, Chiang successfully brings to life a wild, yet good-hearted, horseman who wanders on the margins of society. With the film, Chiang, alongside his fellow martial arts star Ti Lung, soared in popularity to become the most well-known martial arts stars in the Shaw Brothers canon.

那一年，姜大衛23歲。個人氣質與角色完美結合，邪魅一笑，眼珠子滴溜溜一轉，活脫脫就是一個縱馬江湖、放浪不羈但又心存良善的江湖浪客。而這部片，為姜大衛開啟了星途之時，也將他帶入了和狄龍「雙俠刷屏」的邵氏武俠片高光時代。

Vengeance《報仇》

(1970)

Again teaming up director Chang and his regular scriptwriter Ni, the film was said to deeply impress Hong Kong female writer Lilian Lee, who was studying at junior school at the time. She was said to have been so inspired, she wrote her epic novel, Farewell My Concubine, which was later adapted into Chen Kaige's most acclaimed directorial classic. AsVengeance's lead character is named Guan Xiaolou andFarewell My Concubine's protagonist is called Duan Xiaolou, I think it's easy to understand why movie fans are fascinated to explore the relationship between the 1970 film and Chen's classic.

依然是張徹和倪匡的「黃金組合」，這部影片據說曾影響了當時還是初中生的李碧華，讓她寫出了《霸王別姬》這樣盪氣迴腸的小說，也因此成就了陳凱歌導演生涯的巔峰之作。雖然都是坊間舊聞，如風雲飄散，但張徹版《報仇》裡的男主角名叫關小樓，《霸王別姬》裡的主角叫段小樓，也無怪乎後世影迷浮想聯翩。

Chiang plays Guan Xiaolou, the younger brother of an established Peking Opera artist who died suddenly. When the character is mourning the death of his brother, Guan discovers the thrilling truth that a martial arts club owner — who was having an affair with his brother's wife — plotted to murder the artist. Revenge ensues but, unfortunately, Guan is fatally wounded in the attempt.

姜大衛的關小樓，有個哥哥關玉樓是個京劇武生，不幸猝死，關小樓在追悼之中發現一些可疑之處，進而發現真相是與嫂子有染的國術館長封開山聯合他人設計將玉樓害死。他決意為兄報仇，自己卻也悲壯倒下。

In the last 20 minutes, Chiang — wrapped up in a suit of white — kills dozens of bad guys before he falls on the ground in a pool of his own blood, which has since become a classic scene to exemplify director Chang's stylish "aesthetics of violence".

這部影片幾乎奠定了張徹的」白衣赴死「的經典愛好。在最後一組鏡頭裡，姜大衛身穿白色學生裝，在20分鐘的血戰裡手刃數十名殺手，也為張徹的「暴力美學」做了最好的詮釋。

New One-Armed Swordsman《新獨臂刀》

(1971)

Directed by Chang and written by Ni Kuang, the film casts Chiang as the swordsman Lei Li, who excels in using two swords and prefers to wear white outfits. After becoming trapped by villains, the protagonist is forced to cut off his right arm and exile himself, work as a bartender in an insalubrious restaurant in a remote area. But the bad guys won't let him live in peace; instead, they kidnap his romantic interest and murder his best friend. In order to seek justice, Lei trains his left arm hard to use the sword and face off against the evildoers.

還是張徹和他的「御用編劇」倪匡的電影作品。姜大衛在這部片裡，飾演因身懷「鴛鴦雙刀」絕技而馳名江湖的白衣少俠雷力，因為遭人陷害，他自廢右臂退出江湖後，隱姓埋名於某個小飯館裡當夥計。但因為所愛的女子被擒、生死之交的兄弟喪命，雷力被逼重出江湖。

One of the most classic scenes in the film features Chiang's character leaping into action on a stunning moat bridge to rescue the kidnapped woman, with a group of bad guys crawling along each side of the bridge to prepare a breathtaking attack. The scene continues to captivate audiences everywhere.

在這部片，獨臂的姜大衛躍上一座護城河橋，獨自鏖戰兩側攀爬而上的殺手們。這驚心動魄的一幕，也成為影迷們津津樂道的經典武俠片畫面。

Chiang had focused on shooting director Chang's films for three years, creating some classics during the period. One user on Douban, the popular review site, commented: "Chang was lucky to encounter actor Chiang, who can perfectly realize all of his ideas of legendary swordsmen. They were well matched. The process of teamwork was just like David already having been naturally shaped in the giant piece of stone, waiting for Michelangelo to 'dig' him out."

雖然姜大衛集中出演張徹的影片大概也就三年時間，但這段光陰裡，已留下不少經典。曾有網友在豆瓣上感嘆：「張徹能遇見姜大衛何其幸運，所有想像都值得託付，變得有形有質，絕不會有還是差一點』的遺憾。就像大衛已經在大理石裡面生好了，只等米開朗基羅把他挖出來。」

這段描述也真是絕了。

翩翩少年，鮮衣怒馬——在這個蕭瑟的秋日下午，我忍不住更懷念起武俠片的好時光。
