這首歌的歌詞的確蠻令人費解的。聽說這首歌在吸毒狀態下完成。
網上有看到一段關於這首歌的採訪記錄：
Noel: While I was around Meg's place and we were listening to a Pixies album called, I think it ’s... Supernova. As we were listening to this album, we were watching a documentary about where they make Champagne in France. You may laugh but it’s true. I was there drunk going, `Champagne supernova? Yeah man?
Noel在聽一隻叫做Supernova的唱片的時候剛好同時電視播著關於法國香檳製作過程的紀錄片，所以把兩樣東西拼合了，就這樣。另外，有一次在訪問中他也解釋過這是首關於死亡與再生的歌。
歌中不斷求索：生命的意義是什麼？奔三的C活到這個歲數，漸漸感悟到生活的真諦是平凡。我一直追尋一種精彩的人生，等到芳華褪去，才感嘆自己真的是快老了，奔三的人連個對象影都沒見著（掩面）。就想安安穩穩地生活，偶爾去踏個青旅個遊，要是哪天賺大錢了做些公益（吶..現在還在給自己脫貧o(╥﹏╥)o）。在家開個藍牙音箱放些輕音樂、煮些清茶泡來喝，這樣的生活必是極好的。「生如夏花」，保持一些寧靜的心，其實內裡還是豐盈的。
也許有人注意到今天封面的歌詞：

《香檳超新星》這首歌，我第一次聽就聯想到了《平凡之路》。每個人對於生命都有不一樣的看法。於我，我相信木心的話：
