首先，我們知道，「燒烤」的英文是 barbecue，也可以將其縮寫成"BBQ"
BBQ 不能只讀B-B-Q, 還是要讀它的全名Bar-B-Q！
它在牛津詞典裡的釋義是：a meal or gathering at which meat, fish, or other food is cooked out of doors on a rack over an open fire or on a special appliance
在室外露天用明火或特殊器具烤制的魚肉食品
例句：
The barbecue had been set up by the lake, whither Matthew and Sara were conducted.
燒烤已在湖邊開始,馬修和薩莉被帶往那裡。
除此之外，barbecue 還有「烤架」的意思：a metal appliance used for the preparation of food at a barbecue, or a brick fireplace containing such an appliance （燒烤用）烤架，烤爐。
它和 broiler 以及 grill 意思相近。

A：烤肉要烤多長時間？

雖說烤串是燒烤的一種，但是它也有自己的英文：
kebab英 [k bab] 美 [k bɑb]
a dish consisting of small pieces of meat, tomatoes, onions, etc, threaded onto skewers and grilled,generally over charcoal.
也就是說把肉或者蔬菜穿在籤子上面去烤，通常是在炭火（charcoal）上烤，像這一種就叫做 kebab 烤串。
在美式英語中，它會寫成 kabob
和 kebab 意思相近，還有一個詞也可以用來表示烤串：
I'll come get you in 5 minutes with some sort of um, kabob emergency.
五分鐘後我來叫你就說烤肉出了問題好了。
skewer英 [ skju ] 美 [ skju r]
這個詞的本意是表示「烤串用的籤子」，不過它除了表示燒烤中的烤串還可以表示放在火鍋裡的串串。
You can also barbecue them, with or without a skewer in the middle.
你也可以進行燒烤，將肉丸串成串也是不錯的選擇。
barbecue vs grill
在文章開頭我們提到了這兩個都可以表示「烤」的詞，但是它們也有些許差別：
barbecue 更加強調「烤」，grill強調「燒」。
燒」 是指在高熱的溫度下（高於 500 度以上），燒起食物來時間很短。牛排及雞胸肉都是需要「燒」的。
而「烤」的工作環境則相對較低（200-300度），也意味著需要花更多的時間去完成，而且在烤食物時總會產生大量的煙。
所以一般來說 barbecue 會冒很多煙，而 grill 則不會。
