本篇文章，主要是對新概念二的第八課中，有關重要知識點的歸納總結。
生詞與短語部分：
1、competition：比賽、競賽；競爭。例如：beauty competition（選美大賽）；competition in the market（市場競爭）。與之有關的單詞和詞組有：
compete with……與……競爭比賽，
例如：I competed with my brother.（我和我的弟弟競爭比賽）
competitor：競爭者、對手；
competitive：競爭性的；
competitiveness：競爭力。
此外，在這裡小結下其他的比賽的說法：
match/game：指的是2名運動員或者是2支球隊的比賽，重點能夠強調比賽雙方為一對，例如：boxing match/game（拳擊比賽）；
contest：指的是由裁判打分的比賽，強調裁判打分，例如：a singing contest（歌唱比賽）；
race：指的是競速比賽，強調的是速度，例如：a horse race（賽馬）；
game：運動會，強調的是大型的比賽，例如：The Olympic Games（奧運會）。
2、path：小路、小徑。例如：the path to success/victory/freedom（通往成功/勝利/自由的道路）
其他有關路的詞語：
road：泛指道路；
street：指城市裡的街道；
a venue/boulevard：林蔭大道，多用於街道的名字；
highway：城市間的公路；
motorway/freeway：高速公路。
3、enter for：報名參加（各種競賽，考試等活動）。
sign up for sth：報名參加課程，例如：I sign up for maths competition（我報名參加數學競賽）；
join in/take part in/participate in sth：參加（活動、比賽、會議），例如：
Jack should take participate in meeting in punctual（傑克應該準時參加會議）；
join sth：參加某個組織，例如：
Lucy joined the student union（Lucy 參加了學生會）。
4、grow/raise sth：種植（花、蔬菜、水果、莊稼），例如：
The farmers grow/raise the crops in spring and harvest crops in autumn（農民們春天種莊稼，秋天收割莊稼）；
raise sth：還可以表示養殖家禽、家畜等，例如：
The farmer raises a lot of cattle and sheep（農場主飼養了很多牛羊）；
plant sth：種花、種樹，但不表示繼續培育，例如：
The students went to plant trees on Arbor Day（學生在植樹節當天去植樹）。
5、in、of/among的區別；
如果表示範圍的此前用in，例如：
Which is the longest river in the world（世界上最長的河流是哪條?）；
如果表示群體的詞前加of/among，例如：
This is the finest picture of/among them all（這是所有畫中最好的一張）。
