Ladyfest is happening this weekend, plus Caspian is stopping by MAO Livehouse as part of their grand China tour, and Kpop mammoths Super Junior will be performing at Shanghai Grand Stage on Saturday.

Tom Swoon at M2

Polish DJ Tom Swoon, who's currently ranked at number 46 in DJ Mag's Top 100 DJs list, performs at M2 on Friday night.

Caspian 2016 China Tour

New Noise kicks off 2016 by bringing excellent Massachusetts-based post-rock band Caspian to China. The group rounds off an eight-date tour, their third in China, by playing MAO Livehouse in early March. They're known for their live shows, which are always powerfully raw and emotional. This concert will be centered around their latest critically-acclaimed album, "Dust and Disquiet." Support provided by 21 Grams and Yugong Yishan.

Kode9 at The Shelter

The Shelter's "international resident" Kode9 missed his annual trip to Shanghai last year after six consecutive years of playing at the club. He's returning in early 2016, just after the release of his latest album, "Nothing," which combines horror soundtracks, J-pop samples and lots more for a mix of grime, dubstep and Chicago footwork. Support provided by Sayer, Lost Cargo’s Aivilox, newcomer Kilo-Vee and SVBKVLT label boss Howell.

Say Yes x 4x4x4x4x | Deepbass

Where: Arkham, 1 Wulumuqi Lu (near Hengshan Lu)

When: Fri March 4, 10:00PM

How Much: RMB60 plus a free shot

Promoters Say Yes bring in Glasgow-born, Barcelona-based producer Deepbass for a night of dark and heaving ambient techno. DJs Son Dos, Max Shen and Yoshinaga from Asian Vibes spin in support.

Ladyfest Shanghai: Live at Yuyintang

Where: Yuyintang, 851 Kaixuan Lu (near Yan'an Xi Lu)

Ladyfest kicks off with an excellent showcase of female rock and punk bands from Shanghai and Beijing, plus guest Skepp from Stockholm. You can also expect burlesque and hoop dance performances, along with a set by DJ Metermaid.

Punani Rocks | Ladyfest Afterparty

Where: Dada, 115 Xingfu Lu, near Fahuazhen Lu

When: Sat March 5, 10:00PM

How Much: No cover

After two days of art and activism for Ladyfest, head to Dada for the event’s official afterparty. All-girl DJ collective Punani Rocks will play an homage to female musicians across all genres. Esa, Illsee and Velvet Robot will bring you a mix of songs by the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, The Supremes, Nancy Sinatra, Debbie Harry, Chaka Khan and Donna Summer, plus VJing by Scarlett from Rescale studios.

Super Junior Super Camp

Where: Shanghai Grand Stage, 1111 Caoxi Bei Lu (near Tianyaoqiao Lu)

When: Sat March 5, 7:00PM

Kpop mammoths Super Junior are back in Shanghai for another concert. Expect an army of screaming, swooning fangirls to go with slick vocals and synced choreographies. Saturday night at Shanghai Grand Stage; tickets don't run cheap.

Elli Rose

Where: Le Baron, 7/F Donghu Lu (near Huaihai Lu)

When: Sat March 5, 9:00PM

How Much: No cover

Tokyo-based British-Japanese DJ Elli Rose comes to Shanghai for a set of deep techno at Le Baron. No cover, tough door.

SHFT. | Sonny Digital

Where: Arkham, 1 Wulumuqi Lu (near Hengshan Lu)

When: Sat March 5, 10:00PM

How Much: RMB160, RMB120 for SHFT WeChat followers

When trap producer AraabMuzik was forced to cancel his Shanghai show after being shot in NYC, SHFT rallied together and booked American hip-hop and trap producer Sonny Digital, a rising star who's made tracks for Drake, 2 Chainz, Kanye West and lots more, to replace him.
