其實，prefer後邊可以+名詞/動名詞/不定式：prefer to do／doing／n.
比如：I prefer some apples. / I prefer having(to have) some apples.我更喜歡吃蘋果。
如果要分差別：Prefer to 傾向於表示當前的一次；prefer doing傾向於表示經常性的愛好。
I prefer to go this evening.
As a rule I prefer going in the evening.
如果是不喜歡，prefer後邊➕not
大家還挺熟悉一個表達 prefer A to B： 在A和B中更喜歡A。
有時候中文譯成「寧願／寧可，而不」，其實不太合適，因為這個感覺兩者都不怎麼樣，而英文中沒這個意思。「寧可」可以用would rather:
看這個句子：He disliked having to wait for anything to cool down. He would rather be burned.
他不喜歡等東西涼下來，寧可被燙。（這是一種多麼豪爽的性格啊！）
說回prefer A to B：
I prefer green tea to coffee.
I prefer cooking myself to eating out.
prefer A to B 這個用法，A和B必須在形式上保持一致，即要麼都是名詞，要麼都是動名詞。
用不定式就比較尷尬，因為我們不會說：I prefer to walk to to take the bus. 你們可以試著讀讀這個句子，說多了可能會把自己拐成小結巴。 所以我們用rather than 來代替：
prefer to do something rather than do寧可...
比如：I prefer to walk rather than take the bus.
I prefer to stay at home rather than go out in the heavy rain.
而且rather than也可以放在句子開頭：Rather than go out in the heavy rain, I prefer to stay at home.
注意：這裡不可以省略rather ,也不可以寫成prefer doing rather than doing.
