The ninth session of the joint working group on atmospheric science and technology between CMA and Met Office was opened in Exeter, UK on June 13.
It’s reported that on June 13 the local time, the ninth session of the joint working group on atmospheric science and technology between China Meteorological Administration (CMA) and Met Office was held in Exeter, UK. Mr Shen Xiaonong, Deputy Administrator of CMA and Mr Robert Varley, Chief Executive of the Met Office cohosted this meeting.
Robert Varley extended warm welcome to Mr Shen and the delegation of CMA. Mr Shen also extended his gratitude to the considerate arrangement and friendly cooperative spirit of the UK counterpart.
Both sides reviewed that since the signing of the Memorandum of Atmospheric Science and Technology Cooperation between CMA and Met Office in January, 1991, eight joint working group meeting were successfully held and 60 cooperation projects have been launched. Both sides have also conducted wide cooperation in terms of numerical weather forecast, climate and climate services, satellite observation and application. Cooperation and exchanges between the two sides have improved their meteorological science and technology levels.
Both sides also introduced their status quo on meteorological development, conducted discussions on future cooperation projects and reached consensus in areas such as model dynamic framework and data assimilation in NWP, R&D in future NWP model, convective scale model development, rapid assimilation technology of high resolution data, transition from climate science to climate services, effect evaluation of satellite equipment/observation system deviation as well as partnership among training institutions.
Furthermore, both sides exchanged views on strengthening strategic cooperation, reform and development, talent cultivation and international and regional affairs. During the meeting, the delegation of CMA also visited the meteorological facility in the Met Office Headquarters.
