Los Angeles Lakers forward Kyle Kuzma has agreed to a three-year, $40M contract extension, including a player option on 2023-2024 season, sources tell ESPN.

I definitely don't agree with this guy that he would start on a lot of teams, but I also do kind of think it's a discount based on his likely market. Bad teams have shown they're consistently willing to pay for potential, and Kuzma is a young-ish player who already has a lot of offensive talent. If he isn't the type of player to get a ridiculous contract from a bad team I don't know who is. I would definitely say this is pretty fair for a contract on a contending team though.

It's the rare deal where I think that's the best take. Kuzma locks in 40M guaranteed - but if outperforms (or gets traded somewhere he's miserable) he can opt out and hit the Free Agent Market.
Meanwhile the Lakers get in a position where they can move him if they want for a better fit (a 3+D wing I would guess?)

13M a year for Kuz is an incredibly reasonable contract. Surprised he didn't test free agency where I think he would have the opportunity to sign closer to 20M a year but I guess he really loves living in LA. This also makes him a highly tradeable asset going forward. Great deal for both sides.
