媽媽幫你剝……吧。這句話翻譯成英文，並非都是let mommy peel the … for you，剝的東西不同，英文也不同。
1. Peel 剝或削水果和蔬菜等
通常來講，如果某物的皮和去皮後的部分是緊緊貼合的，用peel。
(1) 大部分水果
如：apple 蘋果、banana 香蕉、pear 梨、orange 橘子
註：關於「剝葡萄」，說法不一，有人用peel，有人用skin，或者take the skin off，詳見標題2。
(2) 大部分蔬菜
如：potato 土豆、onion 洋蔥
註：剝豌豆，有人用shell
the peas，有人用shuck the peas，也有人用pod the
pea。豌豆和其他蔬菜的區別是，其他蔬菜的皮和去皮後的部分是緊緊貼合的，所以用peel，而豌豆的豆子和豆莢是分離，所以用shell，和第3個標題講的堅果是一致的。
(3) Hard boiled egg 煮雞蛋
(4) Shrimp 蝦
其他海鮮，詳見第3個標題的第(3)個小標題
註：既然「剝」和「削」都是peel，如何區分它們呢？剝：peel it with your fingers；削：peel it with a knife。
2. Take the skin off… 剝（葡萄、一瓣橘子的）皮
Let me take the skin off the grapes. 我來剝葡萄皮。
亦可將skin作動詞用：Let me skin the grapes.
一瓣橘子上的皮，也用skin。Let me open the skin of that orange piece and take out the seeds. 我把這瓣橘子的皮剝開，把籽弄出來。
3. Shell 去殼
適用於：
(1) Nut 堅果
包括：walnut 核桃、pecan [pi'kn] 山核桃、chestnut 慄子、pistachio [pi'stɑ:iu] 開心果、hazelnut ['heizlnt] 榛子、pine nut 松子、almond ['ɑ:mnd] 杏仁、macadamia [,mk'deimi] nut 夏威夷果。
I am more of an expert at shelling the chestnut than you. Look, I got a whole one but yours is in pieces.
我比你更擅長剝慄子。看，我剝的是整的，你剝的都碎了。
(2) Seed 種子
包括：peanut（花生）和各種seed（瓜子）－sunflower seed 葵花籽、watermelon seed 西瓜籽、pumpkin seed 南瓜籽。
註：關於「剝瓜子」，我們的建議是Let me shell the seeds。也有人認為需要說Let me take the shell off the seeds.
有趣的是，在北美，葵花籽和南瓜籽是比較流行的，而西瓜籽吃的人較少。
(3) Shellfish 貝類
包括：crab 螃蟹、oyster 牡蠣（生蠔）、scallop ['sklp] 扇貝（帶子）、clam 蛤蜊、razor clam 蟶子、abalone [,b'luni] 鮑魚、mussel ['msl] 海虹（青口、貽貝）、sea urchin [':tin] 海膽。
4. Crack open 以使其破裂的方式打開某物；crack 使某物破裂
Crack並不是和」剝「對應的英文，但是在英語中，人們常用：let me crack open the nuts for you或者let me crack the nuts open for you來描述「剝堅果」。
(1) 用nutcracker（堅果夾）
Let me crack the hazelnut open for you.
我給你夾個榛子。
註：在多數情況下，crack open和crack可互換。
(2) 用hammer（錘子）
Let me crack the walnut open for you.
我給你砸個核桃。
(3) 用「摔」的
Mommy will throw the walnut onto the floor to crack it.
媽媽把核桃往地上一摔，它就開了。
(4) 用牙嗑
Mommy likes cracking seeds open with her teeth, and daddy likes doing it with his hands.
媽媽喜歡用牙嗑瓜子，爸爸喜歡用手剝瓜子。
註：媽媽喜歡嗑瓜子。這句話怎麼翻譯呢？可以翻譯成mommy likes eating seeds，不能翻譯成mommy likes cracking seeds open. 因為「嗑瓜子」暗含的意思是「吃瓜子」，強調的不是「嗑」的過程。
(5) 磕
Mommy will crack the egg on the counter.
媽媽在臺子上一磕，雞蛋就裂開了。
註：在英文中，人們使用crack這樣的動詞，表達「夾」、「砸」、「嗑」、「磕」，表達的不是動作本身，而是一種結果。
那麼，如果你磕雞蛋，但是雞蛋沒裂開，怎麼表達呢？She tapped the egg on the counter but it didn't crack. 她在檯面上磕了一下雞蛋，但是雞蛋沒裂開。
5. Unwrap a piece of candy 剝糖
當糖果、巧克力或其他零食和包裝粘在一起，或者非常緊時，用peel，否則用unwrap。
Let me unwrap a piece of candy for you. 我幫你剝塊糖吧。
註：當然，還可以用open這個詞，Let me open the piece of candy for you. 我們中文裡也說：我幫你把糖打開。
亦可用Let me pull the wrapper off for you. 或者Let me take the wrapper off for you.
另外還有一些比較特殊的情況：
6. Shuck the corn 剝玉米
Shuck不是個很常用的詞，主要用於「剝玉米」。關於剝玉米，也有人用husk the corn, 甚至有少數人用peel the corn，但是大多數美國人用shuck the corn，詳見Babycenter.com的一次投票截圖。
7. Pick out the pomegranate seeds 剝石榴
Let me pick out the pomegranate ['pmɡrnit] seeds for you. 我幫你剝個石榴吧。
