1.元旦節
元旦英語詞典中的解釋：New Year's Day is the first day of the year. In Western countries this is the 1st of January. 元旦節是新年的第一天。在西方國家，元旦節是一月一日。
看來，「元旦」叫New Year’s Day(注意大寫)。
順便說一下，今天是「元旦」，那麼昨天就是「元旦前夜」，它的英文說法是New Year’s Eve。在英語詞典裡的解釋：New Year's Eve is the last day of the year, the day before New Year's Day. 元旦前夜是一年的最後一天，也即元旦的前一天。(eve既指前夜，我們在聖誕節英語中介紹過這個，聖誕前夜也就是平安夜叫 Christmas Eve)
2.跨年
「跨年」就是滿懷期待地迎接新年的到來，我們來看看BBC是如何說「跨年」的：
【例】Most other countries usually hold public new year countdown parties.
countdown是「倒數計時」的意思，「跨年」就是new year countdown(新年倒數計時)，是不是有滿懷期待的意思呢?
順便說一下，「跨年演唱會」可以翻譯為new year countdown concert，模仿例句中的new year countdown parties。如果想說「我今天晚上跟朋友一起喝扎啤跨年。」就是I'm celebrating the new year countdown by drinking draft beer with my friends.用現在進行時表示將來發生的動作。
3.新年決心
「新年決心」這個說法我們中文裡原先是沒有的，是直接從英語直譯過來的，近些年越來越流行。
「新年決心」叫New Year's resolution或New Year resolution(兩個都可以)。
【例】I made a New Year resolution to give up smoking. 我的新年決心是戒菸。
4.新年祝福
