However, when one passenger on a Hainan Airlines flight from Nanchang to Xi』an bit into his in-flight noodles last month, his teeth were met with a iron ring.
The passenger, surnamed Wang, says that the bite caused his tooth to become loose and painful, requiring dental work.
When he first filed a complaint over the incident, Wang was shocked by the airline’s initial offer of compensation: 200 yuan and a model airplane.
Wang angrily went public about the incident, declaring that he has no need for a model airplane, causing an airline manager to call him and up the compensation offer to 2,000 yuan plus the cost of dental care.
It’s not yet clear if Wang will accept this second offer. He has said only that he wants to receive 「reasonable」 compensation for the pain and suffering caused by biting into the iron ring.
