Xiamen is the first city to offer tele-call taxi service in Fujian Province and the service has received a warm welcome from citizens since being put into operation in 2014.
Taxis used for the tele-call service won’t answer passengers that try to flag them down from the roadside, and customers are able to use the service by calling 968890 or by making the reservation through mobile phone apps.
The new service has a drawback - it covers a service area within a diameter of 1.5 kilometers, and passengers beyond their service coverage area will not be able to use the platform. The taxis are mostly parked at designated parking venues near major hotels.
The starting fare for the tele-call service is 20 yuan with no fuel surcharge. Other fees will be incurred the same as normal taxis after 3 kilometers. Passengers can pay the taxi fare with cash or their e-tong card.
The capaciousness and quality service of the tele-call taxis have gained increasing popularity within the city.
